Guidelines

• Absolutely no smoking in or near the car. If it becomes clear that this rule was violated, we'll have to charge a $250 fee to get the car professionally detailed. • If you decide to clean the car (not necessary though), PLEASE do not take it through a car wash with brushes. "Touchless" or "Brushless" car washes are fine. If you use a do-it-yourself car was, make sure to keep the pressure washer at least 12-18 inches from the paint on the car. • Please don't bring any pets in the car. My wife and I are both allergic to most dogs and all cats.

Faqs

  • How do I charge the car?
Tesla's super chargers are the fastest way to charge the car. You can find the super charging stations from the map screen in the vehicle or from the mobile app. The cost of super charging bills automatically to my personal account. Once your trip ends, I'll use Turo's "request a refund" feature to get a refund for the amount charged to my account. Just keep track of your time, because they begin charging hefty idling fees 5 minutes after charging is completed. (Once you're logged in to the mobile app, it'll send you notifications when it's almost complete so you can avoid these fees.) Additionally, upon request, I can provide the mobile charger and some adapters in case you'll be able to park it near an outlet. But be aware that charging on a normal 120V outlet takes A LONG time. (You only get about 4-5 miles of range per hour of charging.) If you're returning the car to my house, don't worry about charging it before dropping it off. If I'm picking it up from a location, make sure there's at least 20% left just so I can get home :) Pro tip: if possible, don't sit around waiting for the car to charge to the 90% max. It charges much faster in the lower percentages than the higher ones, so you can actually save time by stopping multiple times and only charging a little bit. https://abetterrouteplanner.com/ can help you figure out the optimum places/times to charge along your route.
  • How far can the vehicle go on a single charge?
The battery is a 310-mile battery when charged to full capacity, but for long-term battery health, it's much better to charge to car only to 90% capacity at most, which means the range is closer to ~279 miles. (Using lots of AC? Mileage will go down a bit. Driving primarily in the cold of winter? Mileage drops significantly.) You will need to plan your driving and trip more carefully than a combustion engine vehicle.
  • How does remote key transfer work?
Right before your trip, I'll provide you with my login credentials to use on the Tesla smartphone app. Once logged in, you'll be able to unlock the car from the app. After getting into the car the first time, you'll find the official key in the glovebox and can then set up your phone as a key and never have to worry about the key card again! (It really is a much better experience.)
