Faqs

  • How do I open the charge port on the car?
There are 3 different ways to do this: 1. Use the key fob by holding down the rear portion of with your finger for 2 seconds. 2. Press controls on center console and then press on charge port button to open. 3. If using a Tesla Supercharger, hold the charge cable handle near the port and press the button on the cable handle.
  • How do I unplug the Supercharge cable?
Press and hold the button on the Supercharger cable handle to unlock.
  • How do I open and close the rear trunk?
Use the key fob by double clicking the rear portion to open or close the powered liftgate.
  • How long does it take to charge the car?
+Supercharging it takes about 20 minutes to charge to 50%, 40 minutes to charge to 80% and 75 minutes to 100%. Charging will always be faster when the battery is low and but will slow down as the battery gets full. +Level 2 charging takes about 8 hours to fully charge. +Level 1 can take up to around 3 days. For more details on Tesla charging basics see: https://www.pluglesspower.com/learn/tesla-model-s-charging-home-public-autonomously/ Supercharge stations are setup in pairs to share 1 charge unit, with the 1st person to the station getting priority and the 2nd person being restricted to the remaining charge. It's ideal not to part directly next to someone at a supercharge station for the maximum charge. Here is a timelapse video demonstrating the charging of a Tesla as the battery fills, you will notice the charge rate also decreases as the battery fills: https://youtu.be/0u_8Gvh8_7U
  • The Tesla stops charging. What do I do?
Unplug and plug the Tesla charger back in. Go into the car and lower the charge current (max) by a few amps in the charge menu by pressing the down arrow. For example if the Tesla is attempting to use 12 amps, lower it to 10 or 8 amps, wait a few minutes to see if it stops. If charging stops again, repeat this process and lower the amps a little more. The reason this happens is do the Tesla trying to pull more current than the circuit currently supports. This can be due to other devices using the same circuit. Another potential solution is using another circuit that is less congested or a circuit that has a higher max current.
  • How do I use the Tesla auto park feature? Does it work for both parallel and perpendicular?
Here is a quick 30 second video showing how to use the feature: https://www.tesla.com/support/model-s-videos#autopark For a more detailed example see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYuVERmVEyo Yes it works for both parallel and perpendicular parking. It some cases it may take longer if Tesla does not think it will make it into the parking space at the angle it is turning. The Tesla will auto readjust the wheel and recenter the car to park into the space correctly.
  • How do I use the Tesla summon feature with the key fob?
    1. Ensure summon is enabled by touching the controls button -> Settings -> Driver Assistance and verifying Summon is in the ON position. 2. Using the key fob hold the center (roof) button down until the hazard lights flash then single press the key fob the direction you wish to move the Tesla, the top (front trunk) to move forward or bottom (rear trunk) to move backward. Press the key fob center (roof) button to stop at anytime. Here are 2 videos showing examples of this working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_2KjqIUWp0&t=4s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99WRokoBtXU
  • How do I use autopilot?
Short 2min video of how to enable and engage autopilot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvAZU1kOHW4 Steps: 1. Ensure autopilot feature is enabled by touching the controls button -> Settings -> Driver Assistance and verifying Autosteer is in the ON position. 2. On the left side of the steering wheel, double tap the lower left small stalk towards you twice to engage the autopilot. Autopilot will engage if the Tesla can read the lanes around you. 3. To disengage autopilot tap the autopilot stalk once away from you or use a small bit a force to slightly turn the wheel and take over control of the car. Cruise control will remain on if taking over the steering wheel but can be disengage by taping the break or pushing the autopilot stalk forward. Here are some tips on mastering autopilot to avoid nags: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqbu6ROwFBc Note: Autopilot does not read stop lights or stop signs and is mainly used for the freeway. It is perfect for stop and go traffic.
  • The supercharge station is charging slow, how do I charge faster?
"At a busy Supercharger, you can often dramatically speed your charging by picking the right stall." See the complete Supercharger SuperGuide for the full details - https://teslatap.com/articles/supercharger-superguide/ Quick tip - To ensure maximum speed supercharging, do not park next to anyone currently charging. Many Tesla supercharge stations share their power between neighboring distribution cables usually indicated by a number followed by A/B such as station 7A/7B. The first person to connect takes all the juice and the second person only gets the leftovers until the first person leaves.

I would first like to start off with saying how nice of a car his Tesla is. It’s a beautiful vehicle that has technology, luxury, free of cluttered up buttons and knobs, extremely fast, comfortable, beautiful, and cheap on gas! 😉 As for Patrick, He was very good at communicating with me. He even recommended a good place to find crab legs when I asked his opinion. Just the fact that I would message him for his recommendation, should tell you how comfortable his personality is with customers. He was also patient while he took the time to explain different features of the Tesla. He was also flexible on our pickup and drop off times, and tried to accommodate our schedule under the parameters of Turo’s policy. I’m pretty new to this site, but if other hosts are anywhere close to what Patrick was, I will be using Turo for all my trips!!!!
