Great car

Gabrielle M.Jun 2, 2020

I've never had to give a complaint about a Turo host, but this one was very disturbing. I own a DSP business and all my vehicles are now van's. I rent from Turo to get around when all my vans are on the road. First car had so many issues.. bad brakes and was shaking when accelerated over 50mph. He was so upset about me reporting the car and that he had gotten the shaking fixed and said you get what you pay for. See part of exact copied message: "FYI, the LAST thing you should do is report to Turo, because they make me go through endless hoops to get the car relisted after a report of any issues... just so you are aware in the future." A few days later he sent this: "By the way, the front brakes and rotors were in need of replacement. Everything else looked to be in great condition." He wanted to make amends with replacing with a different car...ok fine. I got into the second car and Guy insisted I text him a picture of myself with my DL and told me he had disabled the ignition remotely because he wanted me to take a selfie standing "infront of the car" first (despite all 10 pics I had already uploaded). See exact text: "I disabled the ignition on the vehicle. You'll need to take a picture with your license in front of the vehicle and text it here in order to start the car. It's already been checked in for your trip. And if you also call me once you text the picture I have a few questions." Fine, I uploaded the pic. He said thanks and told me he unlocked the car. He then said he locked the car back up and I couldn't leave bc he wanted me to call him bc he had questions for me. So there I was, sitting in the car with my family like a hostage unable to move. So I called him and he put me on speaker with him and someone else. He asked me why I rented a car that was far from my home, what I did for a living and other questions that were none of his business. I had to make up answers and think on the spot because I felt so uncomfortable, so my husband made me tell him it wasn't appropriate. At that point he enabled the car. Not only have I sent a harassment complaint to Turo headquarters, I've had to change my phone number. There is much more to the history of this rental, but no more time. If a car is CLEARLY not running well, don't rent to me!

Guy's response

And when you finally DID reveal what line of work you were using the car for, you were found to be in violation of Turo’s prohibited uses policy. Absolutely everything I do, say, or ask is to protect either you or me against devastating losses should something happen to the car during your trip. But you were one of those guests who was literally impossible to please. You nit-picked every tiny thing as if you expected them to be brand new and belittled my efforts to provide a well-kept car.
