Arrive in classic style and get there really, really fast! This car has the classic Mercedes-Benz style of the Sporty and Light heritage but also contains a hand-crafted 5.5L dual turbo engine that delivers 550hp. This isn't your normal SL. It is an AMG 63. AMG® is short for Aufecht, Melcher, and Großaspach, the division of Mercedes-Benz that produces performance vehicles. Named after some of the most important engineers in the company’s history, this division creates vehicles with advanced engines, aerodynamic bodies, and high-speed capabilities. Most of the vehicles it produces are similar to standard Mercedes-Benz models, but have higher capabilities. Whenever Mercedes-Benz launches a new line of vehicles, the AMG® team collaborates heavily with its designers. They pay close attention to the standard car’s performance characteristics, and develop a plan to incorporate AMG® engines and other technologies. They take into account longitudinal and lateral dynamics, driver comfort, and exterior aesthetics, making sure that enhancing the horsepower does not undermine any of these aspects. They then alter all features that need to be changed to accommodate the new performance characteristics. The engineers pay particular attention to the drivetrain, axles, brakes, dampers, and body, all of which are essential for both safety and efficiency. This ensures that every element of the vehicle works well with all of the others, providing a smooth, consistent ride at even the highest speeds. This car's engine was built by Daniel Reyertag. This car has a great exhaust note, but you have to put the top down to really hear it well because of the excellent noise trapping capability when the roof is up. Flying in to Austin, keep the top up and you have room for two big suitcases in the trunk. Drop those off and the top can fold into the top of the trunk, leaving you room for 2 duffle bags under the top shelf. You can see the shelf in the pictures. When you settle into the seat, the bolsters on the side increases your comfort, you latch the seat belt and it tightens itself to your profile. You will need it when you perform a 0-60 test, (just to make sure the reported time is accurate!). To make sure you are comfortable, you can adjust the lumbar support up and down as well as out towards you. As you dip into a curve, the side bolsters inflate on the side of the curve in order to keep you centered (no, I'm not kidding). If you really want to test this baby's get up and go, find a long stretch of deserted road or huge parking lot and put it in Racing Start mode. After a long day of sightseeing, turn on the seat massager (no, I'm not kidding) and the seat warmer to rejuvenate you for the evening. Set the car in cruise control and it will automatically adjust when someone cuts in front of you or the cars ahead slow down. Enjoy the fantastic ride.
