Description

COVID-19 GUIDANCE: I support the official guidelines on social distancing, and request you do as well. That being said, I recognize some people have essential travel that they need a car for, so I am keeping my listing open with some guidelines. Here is what I am doing to try and keep everyone safe, as well as what I request you do: 1.) If you come down with any flu-like symptoms prior to your trip, please cancel the trip, even on short notice. Do not worry about any cancellation fees -- if you are charged anything I will contact Turo to make sure you are fully refunded. 2.) If you test positive for SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) up to 1 month after taking a trip in my car, please get in touch with me so I can make sure to contact anyone who might have been exposed. 3.) I would like to maintain a 72-hour delay between trips, as SARS-CoV-2 does not remain viable for longer than about 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel. If your trip is booked within 72 hours of a prior trip, I will get in touch with you to try and arrange for a longer buffer. 4.) I will be wiping down all commonly touched surfaces after every trip. 5.) I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in the center console. Please feel free to use it during your trip! Once my supply of commercial sanitizer runs out, I will have to resort to home-made sanitizer (75% alcohol, 25% aloe-vera by volume) that is just as effective as the commercial brands. MANDATORY READING REGARDING ODORS: I had this information in the FAQ before, but it seems many people did not read that section. Due to some unfortunate minor incidents, I feel obliged to put this information at the forefront of my listing: 1.) No air fresheners. I do not like the chemical scent of most air fresheners, and many renters do not either. Please do not put any air fresheners in the car! If you would like, there is a can of "Ozium" that I keep closed in the center console. You can feel free to take it out and open it up (it smells somewhat like lemons). This is the ONLY air freshener/scent you are permitted to use. If you use anything else, you will be charged a minimum of $40, as it takes over a week for the scent to be removed, and I will have to either cancel or discount subsequent reservations if the renter does not appreciate the scent 2.) No OPEN containers of marijuana. The substances you transport in the car are your own business, and I don't care as long as it't not illegal. However, do NOT open any containers of substances that have a strong odor. While you might enjoy the scent, I do not, and it takes over a week for the scent to dissipate, potentially even longer if you spill crumbs of it. Please keep whatever you have sealed in an airtight container, as it comes from the dispensary. Any violations of this rule will be charged a minumum of $40. 3.) No vaping in the car. While you might think that the vapor you exhale if only water, there are chemicals and often glycerol in there. This will leave a residue on the car interior surfaces. Please do not vape in the car, just pull over and step outside if you need to. 4.) Absolutely no smoking of any kind inside the car. Also, if you happen to be around cigarette smoke before entering the car, please give yourself a minute to air out your clothes before entering -- the smoke has a tendency to carryover on clothes. Here is a great, recent vintage Honda Accord up for rent. It's a 2019 model year, in the top Touring trim level. It is a hybrid, so it gets quite good fuel economy! The interior of this car is quite nice. It has supple leather seats, a configurable dash, a nice heads up display, CarPlay, and a wireless charger. One of my favorite features for winter is the remote start, coupled with heated seats and a heated steering wheel! If you are carrying more than two people, the rear seats are also heated. SAFETY ITEMS Although I hope no one ever has to use it, there is a glass breaker/seat belt cutter in the sunglasses holder next to the sunroof. There is a first aid kit under the trunk floor (lift up the liner and trunk floor, and you will see it -- it is a blue soft case). Feel free to use anything in there, but please let me know so I can replace anything that runs low. The car runs on all season Michelin tires from spring through fall, and I swap to Michelin X-Ice snow tires during the winter. This car is front wheel drive, so obviously it is not the best in deep snow. However, you shouldn't have an issue with plowed roads. The car also has the Honda Sensing suite, which includes features like active cruise control, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, etc. It has lane keep assist as well, which steers the car and keeps it within your lane on the highway when it's enabled. However, I find this feature does not work all that well, and it loses track of the lanes frequently enough that I would not recommend you rely on it. I would only recommend enabling this feature if you will be temporarily distracted by something like changing the radio station. The car has a front and rear dash cam hardwired in. I think this is a great safety feature and helps determine liability in case of an accident. However, if this makes you uncomfortable you are free to unplug it during your trip. The dash cam is on the upper right of the front windshield, and the power cable enters on the right side. I would request you please remember to plug it back in when returning the car, however. During your trip, if you will be staying for periods of time with the key fob in moderate proximity to the car (such as the car parked in the driveway, keys in the entry room hallway, or at a bed/breakfast with the parking lot close to your room), you might want to keep the key fob in the RFID blocking pouch. This will prevent any attempts at a "relay" attack, that is starting to become more common Europe but is not that common in the US yet (as far as I'm aware). Additionally, if you accidentally lock yourself out of the car during your trip, I should be able to unlock the car from my phone, provided the car is within range of a cell tower. CARGO CONSIDERATIONS I have a cargo liner in the trunk, as well as floor liners in both the front and rear foot-wells to keep the carpets from getting soaked in the winter. The cargo liner should protect the trunk well, but if you will be moving larger items please be careful if you place them on the seats -- the leather is relatively supple, and I don't imagine it would be cheap to fix should it suffer any tears from sharp objects! If you are loading up the trunk with a significant amount of luggage, please also be aware that the trunk lid support "arms" will retract into the trunk space when closing the lid -- if you place a tall item directly under these support arms, the lid will not close properly. It will be obvious what I'm referring to when you open the trunk. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES This car is relatively long and wide, so the rear camera and parking sensors help significantly when parking in tight spots. Please note that the rear sensors are quite good, but the front sensors are not the greatest. The front sensors only seem to activate when the car is very close to another object, so please be careful if you are relying on them while parking. For parallel parking, the mirror will automatically turn downwards to let you view the curb easily when you switch the car to reverse. This feature is only active when you have the mirror adjustment switch set to the corresponding mirror (e.g. leave the mirror adjustment switch set to the right mirror, and the right mirror will turn downwards when the car is put in reverse). There is already some curb rash on the wheels, and I would appreciate your best efforts to avoid any additional curb rash. If you have any other questions, please read through the FAQ and send me a message if I have not addressed it!

Guidelines

SMOKING: Absolutely no smoking! This includes both tobacco and any other substance. ODORS: I try as hard as possible to ensure my car has a neutral scent with no odor when I rent it out. Please assist me in keeping it this way. Please do not use an air freshener in my car. I do not like the chemical smell, and it takes quite a while to dissipate. In my other car that I previously rented in Turo, a few people returned it with a light scent of marijuana, even though they did not smoke in the car. Please be considerate of both me and other renters -- if you are transporting substances with a strong odor, please do not open their containers inside the car. If you are a cigarette smoker, please be mindful of carryover scent on your clothing -- it can be quite strong. PETS: Pets are ok, as long as you return the car in the same condition you received it. If there are any odors, matted fur, claw marks, etc you will be charged for a professional interior detail job!

Faqs

  • I am not getting the rated fuel economy!

You may see more or less depending on the weather and your driving habits. I have noticed the mileage seems less than rated during the cold months (presumably due to denser air and using significant power for the climate control). The more aggressively you accelerate and brake, the lower your observed fuel economy will be. If you drive with slow acceleration and braking, you can see between 50 and 55MPG, depending on weather. I know some people have reported increases in fuel economy if they alter the tire pressures (a tactic of hyper-miling), but please do NOT change the tire pressures on this car unless they are below the factory specs on the drivers door sill and you are just topping up air (there is an air compressor under the trunk floor if you need to use it).

  • How do I start the car remotely?

With the keyfob, press the lock button, then hold the "start" button (it looks like a circle with an arrow). The car should flash the turn signals three times to confirm. The car will only stay on for about 10 minutes before automatically shutting off again.

  • Do I need to bring an Apple Cable to use CarPlay?

No, I keep to lightning cables in the center console area. One of them is a short (about 6 inch) cable to plug into the USB port right under the screen, and one of them is longer (about 3 feet) should your passenger wish to plug in and use the phone at the same time.

  • The wireless charger doesn't work!

I usually have the wireless charger turned off, as I don't use it. There is a power button that you might have to use to turn it on during your trip.

  • Can I change the vehicle settings?

Please feel free to modify any of the settings which deal with user experience. For instance, any settings for the heads up display, or adjustments for what you see on the digital gauges, etc. I would greatly appreciate if you don't save your seat position settings into the car memory and over-write my current settings. Obviously you should adjust the seat to your comfort, I would just appreciate if you don't press the "Set" button on the driver's door. I would also appreciate if you don't change settings pertaining to the vehicle, such as resetting maintenance schedules, disabling bluetooth, etc.

  • My phone isn't connecting and enabling CarPlay!

Usually, CarPlay will be enabled automatically after plugging in your phone and authorizing the car through the pop-up prompt. However, here are a few tips should this not work. There are two USB ports that can work with CarPlay. One is behind the cover directly under the center screen. The second port is inside the center console. Please try plugging your phone into both of these ports, and make sure your phone is unlocked and on the home screen. If your phone is not detected, try someone else's phone (if possible) to see if it is the car's error or your phone's error. Once every few months, the USB ports stop getting recognized by the car and I have to re-boot the entertainment system to get them working again. I have outlined the procedure for this. I copied these directions from this forum post: https://www.gen3insight.com/forum/290-2019-honda-insight-user-interface/2602-infotainment-system-restarting-rebooting-instructions.html Perform the reboot: Turn off car Perform the following in rapid procession: Foot on brake - turn on car - shift to reverse - shift to neutral (all this should occur well before the Honda logo appears on the display) When system boots, the "Ok" button should be grayed-out. This indicates the system is rebooting. Verify reboot: Once the system restarts, visit this infotainment screen - Settings/System/About/Status - and note the current "Up time" - It should show an up-time indicative of a recent system reboot. The reboot procedure can be difficult to time properly, and might require a few tries before it works successfully.

  • I got a flat tire! What do I do now?

Per Turo policy, this is up to the renter to fix properly. I will try and work with you to find the best solution. I have never had this happen, and I'm not sure if this would go through the insurance policy or not. This car does not have a spare tire due to space considerations. However, there is a fix-a-flat kit with tire plugs if you are comfortable using it. There is injectable sealant as well, but please only use that as a last resort -- it makes a mess and doesn't usually work well. Please note that these are considered "temporary" repairs, and a proper permanent repair can only be done at a tire shop -- the tire plugs are only meant to last you the rest of the trip. If you are uncomfortable doing these repair yourself, I believe Turo will provide roadside assistance to help
