We had this car for 3.5 weeks. The car itself ran okay, and was what we were expecting however the smell inside the car was awful, and made for very uncomfortable drives. At first we weren’t sure what it was and hoped it was some thing that would air out over the long drive we were about to take but it didn’t so we messaged the owner. They blamed it on the car not being used for 3 weeks and it being left outside in the rain. We brought air fresheners and again hoped the smell would really go. A week into the trip the smell was still very unpleasant and strong and it was a distinctive smell of smoke/pot that was coming through. We messaged the owner again who admitted “AS to the weed smell, we had someone smoking weed in this car a few weeks ago. I thought the smell was gone” With the smell not going for the entire trip (it had only started to fade towards the end) we can only assume that the car was not cleaned properly and if the last user had smoked in it, the cleaning fee should have been used to get it professionally cleaned. We were told to get it cleaned and that we would be reimbursed, however we did not have time to do this or felt like we should have had to. We also got told if we got air fresheners for the car he would reimburse us, which he did not - therefore we are glad we didn’t waste money on a clean. We have received no compensation from the car owner despite not getting the service we paid for. We did not get a clean smoke free car.

We had several friends in the car who we would have given rides to places, all commenting on the smell, and it became quite embarrassing and upsetting having to endure the smell. I would advise anyone looking at renting on these cars to check it has been properly cleaned. We should have said something right at the start but we were hoping the smell would go pretty quickly as we did not want the hassle of finding another car (we had a long drive ahead of us that day so needed to be on the road)

The car’s owner did communicate with us quickly, and finally took ownership of the issue (having lied to us the first time about the rain causes the possible smell) however, he has not compensated us in any way, which is very disappointing.
