The Highlander Nightshade Special Edition makes the SE grade even sportier, adding black accents to its rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, exterior door handles, and mirror caps. Black 19-inch wheels, complete with black lug nuts, will match the black headlights and fog lamps. The Toyota emblem on the back will get the same treatment. The Highlander Nightshade Special Edition will be available in a limited run of 5,000 total units!!!
SE: Positioned as the sporty trim, the Highlander SE builds on the XLE model with black headlight surrounds with LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights with black surrounds, black headlights and taillight accents, 19-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, a sport-tuned suspension, and blue LED interior ambient lighting. Includes folding optional third row and seating for 8 or up to 83.2 cubic feet of storage space when all seats are collapsed behind the drivers seat.
A 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 295 hp and 263 lb-ft is optional on the base LE trim and standard on the LE Plus and higher grades. All V-6-powered Highlanders come with an eight-speed automatic.
The V6 will get 19/26 mpg with all-wheel drive but an automatic start/stop system is standard, will improve fuel economy to 21/27 mpg city/highway on front-drive variants and 20/26 mpg with all-wheel drive (20/27 mpg on the LE Plus with all-wheel drive).
Lastly the SE trim’s sport-tuned TRD suspension gives it better handling versus the other Highlander models!!
The 2019 Highlander received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars). The IIHS gave the 2019 model a 2019 Top Safety Pick award after it received a Good score on all categories except for headlights and passenger’s side front small overlap test where it got an Acceptable rating (Good is the highest possible score).
On the IIHS’ front crash prevention test, the 2018 Highlander received a Superior rating after it avoided a 12-mph crash and reduced the speed of a 25-mph impact by 24 mph (Superior is the highest score for the front crash prevention test). The Toyota Safety Sense P active safety suite comes standard on all 2019 Highlanders and includes forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane departure warning with steering assist. Blind-spot monitoring with steering assist is standard on the LE Plus and higher grades.
