Faqs

  • How many miles per day?
100 miles per day $1.25 for each additional mile
  • Am I responsible for cleaning the car before I return it?
With Turo, you’re not just getting any old rental car; you’re getting a car that’s part of a personal story, not a fleet. We expect guests to take care of the car as if it were their own. Cars should be returned in the same condition they were received. Whether you’re coming back from a coastal getaway or a month-long road trip, we hope you’ll remember to shake out the sand and any crumbs you may have dropped so the car is just as tidy as when you first picked it up. If you return the car in a noticeably dirtier condition and the host notifies us, you may incur a cleaning fee from $30 to $250, depending on the seriousness of the issue. The full details of our cleaning policy and the range of fees can be found here. We recommend taking photos of the interior and exterior of the car both at the start and end of the trip and uploading those photos to the Trip Photos section of the app. https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/207320447-Am-I-responsible-for-cleaning-the-car-before-I-return-it-
  • What kind of fuel?
    Premium
  • What happens if I scratch the car?
If it's scratched, scraped or dented. Then reimbursement will be submitted.
  • What's the cleaning policy?
Cleaning policy Hosts are expected to provide their guests with a clean car at the start of the trip. If a guest receives a car that is not clean, they should contact Customer Support at the start of their trip. In turn, guests must return the car in the same or better condition in which they originally received it. In the event that a guest returns a car dirty, hosts should also contact our support team. Guests and hosts can reach out to support here. In order for us to process cleaning claims, Turo requires hosts to send us before and after photos within 24 hours of the trip ending, including photographs of the interior of the vehicle (middle console, interior front seats and floor, interior back seats and floor at minimum). The “before” photographs must have been taken before the host provided the car to their guest, and no more than 24 hours before the trip’s scheduled start. The “after” photographs must have been taken after getting the vehicle back from the guest, and no later than 24 hours after the scheduled end of the trip. We recommend using the trip check-in and checkout feature in the Turo app to help expedite the cleaning claim. Once Turo has reviewed the documentation, the host will receive reimbursement based on the severity of the claim, as outlined below; the guest will be charged in accordance with this policy. Cleaning Fees and Fines The levels of cleaning and the reimbursement amount they entail are as follows. Ineligible for reimbursement Minimal amounts of trash. Small amounts of crumbs, sand, or dirt on floor mats that can be shaken off. Small marks that can be cleaned off with a towel. Light cleaning - $30 Car exterior is returned significantly* dirtier than how it was received (e.g. dirt on car body, wheels, or windows). Floor mats or upholstery are returned significantly* dirtier than how they were received (e.g. requires more than a shake-out to be restored to original condition). Large amounts of crumbs, sand, dirt, or food byproduct are left in the car. *Turo will use its discretion to determine what is considered significant. Medium cleaning - $50 Light stains or residue on hard surfaces (e.g. liquid spills or sticky substances). Heavy cleaning - $100 Major stains or residue on seat fabric or other hard-to-clean surfaces. Severe cleaning - $150 Situations in which a car contains the aforementioned violations on an egregious level that would require steam cleaning or a full detail. Pet hair - $150 If a pet enters a vehicle at any time without a host’s consent, the guest will be held responsible for having the car cleaned. Hosts may still charge cleaning fees if they give consent and the car is returned with significant amounts of pet hair. Service animals are not excluded from this policy. Smoking - $50 or $150 $50 for smoke scent removal only. $150 for smoke scent removal and physical remnants of smoking (e.g. ash, cigarette butts). If there is damage to your car (e.g. a burn mark), you should submit a damage claim, not a cleaning reimbursement. Maximum - $250 In the event that a car is returned with multiple cleanliness issues (such as a combination of severe cleaning and smoking remnants), the maximum fee that will be assessed is $250. https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000808347
  • How do I pay for fuel, additional miles, or other issues that come up during a trip?
We understand that sometimes the unexpected happens during a trip — you might forget to refuel the car, or maybe you drive farther than the number of miles or kilometres included in your reservation. Fortunately, our Reimbursement tool makes it easy for travelers to pay hosts directly for incidental trip costs. Within 72 hours of the trip end, hosts are able to request funds from you for fuel level discrepancies and extra mileage. Please note that you are responsible for returning a vehicle with the same level of fuel it had when you picked it up whether that vehicle is gas powered or electric. Within 30 days of the trip end, hosts can request funds for tickets and tolls. In each instance, you’ll receive a notice via email that a host has requested reimbursement. When you receive a reimbursement notice, you can pay the host directly through our website or through the Turo app. If the charge is inaccurate, you can message the host to dispute the reimbursement request. Hosts are also able to withdraw requests should the two of you agree upon a different amount. If you don’t respond to or dispute a reimbursement request within 72 hours, the request will automatically resolve for the host, and you will be charged the requested amount. So whether you drove through that toll booth or drove farther than expected, we encourage you to let the host know so you can make a quick payment through the Reimbursement tool after your trip ends. The host will keep 100% of the cost they request from you (with the exception of mileage costs). There is also a 3% surcharge that goes directly to covering the cost of the transaction. If the host needs our help to submit the reimbursement, the administration fee will be $25. For cleaning fees, late fees, or anything else, shoot us a quick message and we’d be happy to help you! If you need to file a damage claim or report an accident, please use our Resolutions tool. If you book a trip where an host is providing their own insurance (e.g., if you are using Turo in a country outside of the US or select provinces of Canada, or if you are within those areas but the host has declined Turo’s protection), hosts may still file for reimbursements for parking tickets and tolls through Turo by using the Reimbursement tool, or by contacting you directly for reimbursement.
