Faqs

  • Do I need to charge it in full before return the vehicle ?
You don't need to return it full.
  • How many miles can I realistically drive per charge?
75-80 miles if you drive gingerly, 60-70 miles if you drive sporty.
  • Where can I charge the spark EV ?
Please download the plugshare and Chargepoint apps to study chargers in your area. There are plenty in Bay Area or you can plug in at your home on 110v overnight. Shang was awesome to rent from. Prompt, and the car was very clean. It was convenient to and from SJC as well.

Shang was always available and helpful while I was getting adjusted to driving an all electric car, over all and very good dude. Greta trip.

Shang and his wife are so great! They made the rental process easy and pleasant. Car was in great condition, very clean. This car is so fun to drive. It has pickup, even though it's an EV! The biggest thing to be aware of is all the details of charging. I couldn't charge where I was staying, so I had to charge while out and about. It was confusing at first, but here's what you need to know: Different electric cars use different charging ports. This car can't use Tesla charging or the charging ports for Asian cars like Nissan Leaf. It used SAE combo (fast, 60 mi / 15 mins) or J1772 (slower, 14 mi / hr) or a regular plug connected to the converter (very slow, 4 mi / hr). Use the EVGo app to find fast chargers. It's 20 cents a minute when you have the pay as you go plan. Use the ChargePoint app to find slow chargers, particularly when you'll be parked for a long time. Costs vary for ChargePoint, and there are a few free ones (especially when you're already paying for parking, like in a parking garage), but typically they are $1/hr or less. Can you take this car longer distances, like from Monterey to SF? Yes! As long as there are fast EVGo chargers along your route. I made that trip twice, charging in Gilroy and somewhere in the South Bay, like Mountain View. This added about an hour to the trip. But, having a small car really made parking in SF easier! Plus, being able to park in EV charging only spots was a big advantage. There are fewer chargers in Monterey, PG, and Carmel, so make sure to be more careful there. I couldn't figure out a way to take the car to Big Sur. I love the car and would honestly consider owning an EV if I lived in urban CA. Last point-- the car can have blind spots if you don't adjust your mirrors properly, so just be extra careful about that. And people may take pictures of your car because it looks EXACTLY like the car emoji hahaha.
