WATCH THESE YOUTUBE VIDEO TO HEAR THE EXHAUST NOTES IN ACTION IN THE F-TYPE R:
My British Racing Green (a $1200 option) colored F-type R coupe is powered by a 550-hp supercharged V-8, taking it from 0 to 60 in 3.5 SECONDS which is quicker than the PDK-equipped Porsches. At 3.5 SECONDS to 60 mph, this Jag is a tenth of a second quicker than a Porsche 911! This Jag clings to the skidpad with 1.00 g of grip, just as tenacious as the Porsches. And it stops from 70 mph in 151 feet, only three or four feet longer than the Porsche Carreras.
This lusty little coupe is every bit the performance car its German rival is.
But no single trait defines this R coupe more than its ripping, wall-of-sound exhaust noise. It growls, it snaps and pops to announce your arrival and departure (CHECK IT OUT IN THE YOUTUBE VIDEO LINKS POSTED ABOVE). Activate the “loud” button for the exhaust and lay into it. The car sprays in its wake the aural equivalent of 100 ninja stars, LOL. Breathe off the throttle and the exhaust pipes fire handfuls of Black Cat firecrackers at whatever is behind you, POP, POP, POP! Yes, I know that the popping and grumbling the car does is just a bit of theater. It’s a carefully orchestrated nostalgia trip to the old days before fuel injection and emissions controls made all engines behave perfectly. And further, I believe on principle that burning gas outside of an engine is silly. But, oh, that sound! That glorious sound!! It’s a rare bit of adolescent pleasure for adults.
