COMMUNICATION WITH OWNER/VEHICLE PICKUP I contacted Matthew a month before the trip via Turo but received no response. Matthew responded via text message several days before the trip. Matthew did not meet me to hand over the keys but instead left the vehicle running outside what I presume to be his apartment. Matthew did not receive a copy of my driver's license nor did he provide any additional instructions to me about vehicle safety, usage, etc. When I returned the vehicle, I was asked to leave the keys inside and to park it on a street north of the apartment complex; further instructions were not given and (hopefully) I parked the vehicle in the correct place. I never actually met Matthew in person or spoke to him on the phone. This, to me, was the worst aspect of the experience as I felt a little lost as to what should happen if a problem came up with the car. VEHICLE CLEANLINESS/SAFETY The vehicle was clean on the inside and a little dinged up on the outside. Fuel was at about half a tank full when I picked up the car and I returned it at about 3/4 a tank full. The windshield wipers needed to be replaced. Had I driven through heavy rains, it would have been an issue. Tire pressure was low when I picked up the vehicle and when I returned it. As another reviewer mentioned, the vehicle has a little bit of trouble shifting up in lower gears. It is fine starting at around 30MPH and driving on the freeway. I took the vehicle to Appleton, WI and had no major mechanical issues. OVERALL For the price, this was my best experience renting a car. No bells and whistles, just needed wheels to get around. There were a few issues I would have liked not to have dealt with. As this was my first experience with Turo, I would have liked it if Matthew was more communicative. Though I ran into no mechanical or other issues with the car, it was not immediately obvious to me what to do had an issue arisen. I would rent this car again on a future visit to Chicagoland.

The original car had an issue when we arrived-the battery was dead. Matthew was very accommodating and let us use another car he had on the spot, and was very apologetic about the inconvenience.

When we flew in we had agreed upon meeting at the terminal at 11pm he showed up around 11:15 11:20. He was with his friends and hardly cared about meeting me or letting me know anything about the car. After we had taken off me and my girlfriend friend had stopped at a gas station. I locked the car with the fob, but when I came back out it wouldn’t unlock with it. So I entered the car with the key and the alarm went off. With out a working fob I didn’t know how to turn it off. So I preceded to call him to ask what to do. When he answered he seemed annoyed that I even called, and said did you try to lock it, condescendingly. As time went on the car windows began to get dirty. So as all of us might do I used the wipers to try to clean them. Well that didn’t work, just got worse, cause his wiper rubber needed to be replaced. To top it off it rained later in the week, as well. The car ran great but it was some what dirty. I just feel as if no one cared about our safety or the maintenance of the car.

Matthew was good at communicating with us, was punctual, and very flexible about where to meet at the airport. His Honda Fit is a bit old and makes some strange sounds at times, but it got us from point A to point B with no hassle at a very reasonable price. If you're sensitive to scents, as I am, you may want to book another car. We ended up putting the multiple air fresheners in a ziplock during our drive, but the car still had a very strong fresh scent that irritated my sinuses-if you like a car that smells very fresh you will probably like this car!
