Guidelines

The car will be ready for you Cleaned and Charged with at least 200 Miles. Please return the car Cleaned and with at least 100 Miles. There is a $20 charge for dirty car and another $75 for return of less than 100-Mile Range (cleaning and charging the car for the next Guest) takes a long time - returning the car cleaned with 100-mile range cuts down this time). A Charge Card (ChargePoint or EZ Charge) is provided for non-Tesla Chargers; Tesla Chargers (in select designations) do not require any Charge Card or adaptor. For non-Tesla Chargers, there is a Charging Bag (containing 3 adaptors and a charging cord) in the front Trunk. If you use any of the adaptors and or the cord, please return it neatly in the bag. There is a charge for lost or missing bag, adaptor or cord. Please download Plugshare App to see where Charging locations are - Tesla charging station locations are available on the Navigation Map (screen). If you use Tesla Super Chargers, you will be billed (as reimbursement) between $3 to $9 per charge (Tesla's price). This is a Model S S75 version with up to 240 Miles per full Charge. You are responsible for all TOLLS, PARKING and DRIVING CITATIONS during your rental period. This car Does Not have an Illinois TOLL TRANSPONDER. Consequently you must pay for all TOLLS - failure to pay all TOLLS will result in ticket/fine on the car. You will be billed (as reimbursement) for this, may take a while, given the time it will take for us to be aware of the violations, and be assessed between $25 to $100 Administration Charge, depending on the time and efforts. Please not eat "messy" food, smoke or drink in the car (except water). There will be a de-fumigation charge of up to $500, if there is any smell of smoking/vaporing of any kind in the car. Please be careful while driving with the wheels and glass, if you scrape or scratch the wheels (it is an upgraded wheel), there will be a claim against you for the cost of repairing or replacement. To return the car, please 'hand-wash' the car - don't run it through automatic carwash. If you can't wash the car, please bring it back tidy, we will wash it and bill you up to $25.. Our goal is a FANTASTIC RENTAL EXPERIENCE for you - BUT WE HAVE A STANDARD. Please help us keep the standard.

Faqs

  • What do I need or need to know in order to drive a BEV?
Only familiarity with the particular BEV and a few range-extending (mileage) tips in order to limit the frequency of charging. Other than these, BEVs drive just like regular cars except quieter. Besides, we will walk you through the entire operation of the BEV before you drive off and there are hundreds of resources, including how-to videos on Youtube
  • What is the range (miles per charge) of the Tesla Model S 75?
249-mile range on the 75-kWh battery per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – but your range may be substantially longer or shorter depending on how you drive; we will share with you tips about how to increase your range per charge
  • What are Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)?
BEVs are different from Internal Combustion Engine Cars (ICE), because BEVs have no engine, but motor driving the wheels. BEVs are powered by Lithium-ion Battery technology. There are many advantages of BEVs such as no emission (no pollution) and low maintenance costs. There are different brands and models of BEVs, such as Tesla Motors’ Model S, X and currently in production – Model 3, and BMW I3, Nissan Leaf, GM’s Chevy Bolt and many more are coming to the market any time now, the future is electric vehicles. BEVs come in different battery packs or sizes (battery kWh – kilowatt hour) which determine how many miles they can go on a charge
  • What type of BEV do you offer?
Currently, we offer a fleet of 30 kWh battery 2017/2018 Nissan Leaf BEVs (sv trim) and 2017/2018 Tesla Model S 75, and 2018 Tesla Model 3
  • Where else can I get additional information on BEVs?
Youtube or the manufacturer's web site
  • What are the economic advantages of driving a BEV?
Simply put, serious savings on maintenance and operating costs with the biggest savings being the cost of not buying gasoline. BEVs do not use gasoline instead they only have to be charged, for a small price (charging time and cost vary), from hundreds of BEV Charging Stations across the Chicagoland. With our fleet of BEVs, you may charge for free at Tesla Stations using fast chargers and at any Nissan dealers using the Tesla/CHAdeMO adapter (we purchased separately for the car). Additionally, there is no oil change or other costs associated with the ICE cars. Thus, saving you money by simply by driving a BEV
  • How are BEVs different and in what ways?
BEVs are clean with zero emission (environmentally friendly), and require no petrol and many other routine maintenance that the regular Internal Combustion Engine cars (ICE) require; such as no oil changes, no oil filter, and many other maintenance costs associated with the ICE cars. Thus, putting more money in your pocket from not having any of these maintenance and operating requirements
  • How much gas do I have to buy daily?
None - as BEVs do not use gasoline. Thus you could be saving an average of $20-$30 per day in gasoline cost (over average $700 per month). You only have to charge the battery and Charging is free at all Nissan Dealers (Using Tesla/CHAdeMo adapter – for Tesla – using our charging card) and at Tesla Stations (for Teslas). Additionally, you can pay to charge at other charging stations such as ChargePoint locations, currently the cost is $3 for a 20-minute DC fast charge that will get the battery back to 80% of its capacity, longer time to get to 100% capacity. We may also provide Lessee with charging card that may be free in some locations.
  • Where do I charge the car and how much does it cost?
There is extensive BEV charging infrastructure in the Chicagoland, including at all Nissan dealers and Tesla Stations. Using the ‘PlugShare’ and/or Nissan EZ-Charge apps (also on the Nissan Leaf’s on board GPS) you will have access to all charging stations wherever you find yourself in the Chicagoland. Charging at Nissan Dealers and Tesla Stations is free. A DC fast charge at ChargePoint locations costs approximately $3 for twenty (20) minutes fast charge to 80% of the battery capacity. We may also provide Lessee with charging card that may be free in some locations
  • What are the types of charging stations?
There are three types of charge stations and they are: 1. Opportunity (trickle); the slowest via standard/regular 110/120 volt (dedicated home charging), sometimes called “Level One” 2. Normal (standard): 240 volt – charges in six (6) hours or so, sometimes called “Level Two” and 3. Quick Charge (DC fast-charging station); up to 80% charge in about 30 minutes, sometimes called “Level Three” – the fastest. We recommend/suggest a DC fast charger at BERMAN NISSAN ON 3456 N. KEDZIE AV. CHICAGO, IL 60618, for your information. It charges to 100% in about the 30 minutes. It is approximately the cross roads at Kedzie/Elston/Addison streets. Close to Kennedy Express way also. Tesla on Grand Avenue and other Tesla Supercharging stations locations can also be viewed on the car computer It is important to know that the charging time will vary given the state or condition of the battery before the charge – but the above is generally true if the battery is not below the manufacturer’s specified percentage/capacity.
  • Can I take the leased car out of Chicagoland?
No. RIES’s fleet leasing program only allows the car to be driven within the six Chicagoland eligible counties of: Cook, Dupage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will. If the car is taken or driven out of these areas, the ‘Geo-fence’ alarm will be activated at RIES. All our cars are fitted with electronic management and monitoring devices that would alert us on certain situations such as driving out of the ‘Geo-fence.’
  • How I am saving more with BEV and RIES’s fleet?
You are saving more because BEVs require no gasoline and have zero to minimal maintenance costs initially. Additionally, RIES’s leasing fee is lower than most with year and model consideration; the fleet is currently Nissan Leaf BEVs and Tesla Model S.
  • How soon or at what percent should I stop to charge?
You must stop to charge when your gauge is at or close to 20%, if not sooner. If you go beyond 15%, it will take you a very long time to get (charge) the battery back to 80% let alone 100%. As you become more familiar with the vehicle, you will know when you have to charge. However, under no situation should you go below 20% before you charge. FYI, all our cars are fitted with electronic management and monitoring devices that would alert us on certain situations such as driving below the 15% threshold.
  • What is the daily mileage limit I have on my rental?
RIES has a 200-mileage limit per day. Additional mileage beyond the 200 limit will be charged at $0.70 cents per mile.
  • What happens if I return the BEV less than 50 miles of charged?
You will be charged $50 for this per (30 minutes) half hour of charge to get to 80%.
  • What are the value-added reasons for driving a RIES BEV?
You will be driving a brand new BEV with all of the cache and savings that come with it. Our fleet is 100% electric all 2017 Nissan Leaf and 2017 Tesla Model S models - importantly, the Lessee is responsible for deductible for every accident or damage to the BEV or third-party asset/property
  • Where are the BEVs located?
In a secure (cameras and manned security personnel) garage location in Evanston – the base where the BEVS are to be taken and returned - next to convenient train station.
  • How many passengers can fit into the Model S?
Five comfortably with enough cargo space for at least three standard luggage cases.

Great car. Nice people. Hand off takes a little longer than necessary. Maybe that’s just on the first trip.
