Description

Because this is a manual, read the drive test instructions: http://www.insightrental.com/drivetest/ Unlimited miles and great mpg for your highway trips. It looks like an ordinary car, but you won't find this Eco edition with a manual transmission at any rental company. The Cruze Eco showcases some of America's best engineering and is built in Lordstown Ohio. In a nutshell, it's good on gas and is fun to drive. I bought it to compete with my Insight as a great highway car. Engineering overview: The Cruze Eco is going to go down in history as a cutting-edge highway fuel sipper. The engineers didn't hold back. It has an active grille shutter to improve the aerodynamics. The low displacement (1.4 L) engine reduces pumping losses, while power and torque are supplemented with a turbocharger instead of going with a heavy and complicated hybrid system. Heat loss to coolant is mitigated by running the engine above the boiling point of water, which allows for an extra tall 6-spd manual gearbox. Normally, running at too low an rpm gives the combustion gases too much time to cool off against cylinder walls before the energy is extracted. And finally, GM must have done something to reduce engine friction, since you get hardly any engine braking even considering the small engine size. It's a good thing the parking brake is at your right hand, not hidden away in the footwell. The sound system has all the fancy features, but doesn't sound as nice as my other cars and the controls are unintuitive. Maybe the illogical controls are an homage to the Insight. ;)

Guidelines

Because this is a manual, read the drive test instructions: http://www.insightrental.com/drivetest/ 1. Have a friendly face as your profile photo. 2. Tell the host why you're renting. 3. Tell me if you can drive a manual, if you can't and would like to learn (free lessons), and whether you have a preference. 4. Be flexible with your trip times and vehicle. 5. Give hosts your arrival plans. 6. Show up on time. 7. Allow 10 - 15 minutes for photos, pre-trip inspection, and an overview of how to operate the car. 8. Call the host right away if you have any issues during your trip. 9. Communicate your return plans. 10. Bring the car back clean and refuelled. 11. If there's damage, tell me about it. 12. Pay your parking tickets right away. 13. Write a review. 14. Check the toll bill for accuracy and approve it. 15. Call me next time you need a car. 16. If you're renting as a group, the driver shouldn't pay.

Faqs

  • Why are you so strict about arrival time?
One of the biggest operating costs of Turo is meeting renters. Some renters make it very easy, others are difficult. I rent to everyone, don't discriminate based on any perception of how difficult a renter will be to serve. That's only possible if I can charge for inconvenience, damage, smoking, etc. By insisting on promptness, I get high quality renters who are successful in life because they make things easy for everyone they interact with. And you get clean, well-maintained cars, promptly at your scheduled pickup time. It beats waiting at the rental counter at Hertz.
  • What skills do you check in the manual transmission checkride?
    1. You're able to launch the car without excessive clutch slippage. Keep it below 1500 rpm, engage the clutch fully by 8 mph. 2. You remove your foot from the clutch pedal, move it to the dead pedal when you're not actively shifting or starting the car. 3. You never rest your hand on the shift lever. Finish your shift and move your hand back to the steering wheel. Leaving your hand on the shifter wears out the shift forks, eventually making the transmission sloppy. 4. You shift gently, allowing time for the gears to synchronize. No "power shifting". The shift lever isn't a switch, it physically actuates a complicated mechanism. 5. No downshifts to first gear. Go into first from neutral when the car is stopped or under 5 mph.

Had the pleasure of using Charvak’s Chevy Cruze on a 2 day trip up to niagra falls. Pick up and drop off was made very easy. Charvak was very accommodating and on meeting him ran through the car details. The car drove very well throughout and was also very economical for the distance. Would recommend anyone looking for a long journey vehicle to book this.

Charvak was an excellent host and made my first Turo trip a delight. He was a responsive communicator and was punctual for pick up and drop off. He was a class act and even dropped me and my roommate off after our trip. The best part was the Cruz was a blast to drive! I loved how zippy it was and it handled the mountains of Vermont without any problems. I would definitely recommend Charvak and his carefully curated convoy of cars.
