You know that moment when you say to yourself, “I knew something was going to go wrong” and you kick yourself for not listening to your intuition? Well that was my experience with Michael.
When Michael didn’t respond to my rental, neither through the Turo app nor my text message to his phone, I had that feeling mentioned above. But being the optimistic person I am I arrived at Michael’s house at 10:00 to pick up the car. When I called from outside the house he sounded surprised that I was there. It took several minutes for
Michael’s sister to come down with the keys, and that’s when we discovered the car’s battery was dead. The vehicle hadn’t been run in 5 days, according to Michael. Since the car is a Prius electric car. . .does anymore need to be said?
I have empathy for the fact that Michael had recent surgery and is a bit incapacitated. As a real estate businessman I would expect Michael to take more responsibility for his fiscal obligations. I’m especially disappointed because the car is within walking distance of my house and I’m a regular user of Turo. Bummer for Michael, too.
Thanks to Turo for excellent and immediate response to my morning debacle. I received a little extra in my refund and found another car to pick up later this afternoon. I missed my morning plans but the rest of the weekend will go smoothly. I’ve already heard from the next Turo host!
