Car was nice and as advertised. Dings and scratches around car, but nothing horrendous. Was clean. Tires are balding. Gas was missing a little less than 1/4 tank. Small SUV, like a X3, rather than a X5, so beware if you have car seats as it barely fits if you need to sit back with 2 kids. Decent price for a Mercedes SUV. Fairly easy to communicate with Franckie. He checked mid-trip to make sure we weren't having problems with the car, which was nice. We drove the car less than 300 miles for 2 wks. 1000 miles were allowed. $30 airport delivery fee to IAD for 2 week rental never waived despite this being posted. He said originally he would consider refunding me in cash since it was already paid by credit card, then reneged when we came to drop it off saying he had only 'considered' it. Did not appreciate the dishonesty as he posted on his site he would waive the delivery fee for 2 week rentals. It wasn't about the money, but the principle. Left a bad taste. Do not trust the 2 week waiving of airport fee with this host. No way to communicate with host prior to rental to hash out details which would have saved a lot of trouble. Drop off extremely difficult to arrange if you are at the airport especially if you are early and host is late. We said we would be early (3:30-4p instead of 4:30p so we would not be late on a Friday. He said he would come no later than 4p, then actually came late at 4:45p). Had to circle airport as he did not want us to park the car, then changed his mind. He wanted us to check in for our flight then come out to give him the keys. Not the smartest idea since you don't get to do a post rental walk through together and he may have trouble finding the car. Crazy if you add in a crying toddler and 7 month old infant with all kid paraphernalia in the mix.. He wanted us to drop him off when we picked up the car then sounded irritated he had to Uber it home. Same irritation when arranging drop off. Would have expected host would have figured out all these details without expecting renter to be concerned about his transportation as he was paid handsomely for his rental ($>1000). He has multiple cars he rents out for his business. Will never use Turo unless we've communicated to clarify these details prior to renting. Turo reps have little way of knowing troubles with host since communication is private with host via texts and calls. Nothing like the Air BNB experience which Turo should aspire to. Used Turo because the BMW SUV/X5 we always rent were sold out and because it was cheaper. Also thought the concept was way cool. Lesson learned. At this price point, better to just rent through an established agency.
