I rented the 2011 Jeep Compass from Saher. Saher was great and accommodating. I'd give him 4-5/5 stars for dealing with him. However, there were some disappointing things about the rental vehicle, which is the reason for the rating.
First thing I noticed was that the vehicle did not have registered plates, but rather dealer tags that expire. I believe it is a questionable practice to rent an unregistered vehicle while it appears to be up for sale since it had dealer tags. There is a reason CarFax flags cars previously used as rentals. So doing it with an unregistered vehicle appears questionable.
Second, the car was clean inside and out, but had clearly been the subject of customization. The rear seat cup holder was loose on the floor, having been removed to install a large DC power Converter. No one could sit in the center comfortably. I'm assuming it was for a high-powered sound system, but could be something else.
The car's wheels are not stock. This became a problem for a number of reasons, including it causing speedometer to show slower than actual speed due to lack of or improper calibration, it causing a very annoying and louder noise than stock wheels, and it causing decreased gas mileage.
Third, the windshield has a number of rock chips/cracks. Large ones, mind you, that were easily noticeable.
Fourth, the passenger-side windshield wiper was busted. It's literally hanging off the stick.
Fifth, the mileage was unusually high for a rental, and should probably be disclosed. It was over 110,000 when I picked up.
At $28/day, this rental simply isn't worth it. Maybe Saher's other vehicles are ok, but I only have the one to go off of.
