I would like to share my unfortunate experience.
It was my first time to use TURO because I used to have a car in NewYork for three years but I decide to sell because I moved to Manhattan from Long Island City. I have been driving for 7 years without any accidents or claims.
I have recently rented a car through your platform on September 4th 10:00am through September 5th 10:00pm. There was a blowout on the left back tire of the vehicle while I was traveling Albany Post Road on 5th of September. At that time, we drove the car under the 200 miles.
After the incident, we tried to contact the owner but the owenr did not received phone call. After close examination, mechanic at the shop told me that the tire failure has originated from under-inflation of the tire which originated from excessive wear. There had been a metal object that had pierced into the tire that caused undue stress, and mechanic commented that "judging by the wear of the metal object (see attached photo) it had been stuck there for quite a long time."
I was lucky that I was driving at a local road, I can't imagine what could have happened if I were driving that car at the free way at the time of the incident. I fully recognize that flat tire can happen to anyone of us, but this was caused by the owner's negligence and it almost caused me serious harm. I will open to your judgement but it is easy to imagine that flat tire could not happen for few hundred miles of driving.
After the accident, the owner was kind and try to accommodate regarding this issue. But regardless their kindness, it was very clear that this happening ruin our vacation and we paid $200 dollar for the repair. We could not even go to the final place where we plan because of the accident and the round trips of the total usage miles was only 400.
We are still under the process talk to TURO to get refund back the money but I think you could image that the car can be under the poor maintenance as a tires.
