Andrew was great to rent from! Highly recommended and I look forward to renting from him again.
I'm a little sad to rate this trip as low as this but here's why.
We start our trip whit the Kia Sorento. The car was a little damaged at pickup. Some body dommage, the rear door handle was hanging barely in place, but it was working. The most worrisome part is the transmission, at low speed I felt the car shaking a lot. A burn smell and a lot of noise when just going can be noticed very easily. The transmission was not in good shape at all. So almost three or four day after the start of our trip, we were on a highway cruising and then, while going uphill, the car downshift, the Chek engine light come on and the car almost stop in heavy traffic. We barely made it to the house.
So I texted Andrew, I explain him the situation and I asked to be refund for the rest of the day which we didn't use the car so we just go rent another one. He say that he have another car that he can let us for the same price. Remenber, we shop and we rent a little SUV. Meeting Andrew (I need to say that he answer fast) and he gave me the key of a big Nissan minivan. So thus we found ourselves driving a big minivan through Hawaii... not really what we expected first.
So, it was somehow ok, it doesn't cost us anything more for the car and we manage to get around town without problem.
Here is the worst part, Andrew was fine to let us to the airport at the end of our trip. The last day, Andrew pick us with the Minivan and drive us to the airport. I say to Andrew that I was unable to full the gaz tank, because at every gaz station they asked me to pay before so I can't know how much gaz it will enter the car. The car was almost full. At least 19/20 of the tank, that is the level of almost full gaz that there was in the car when we left. I inform Andrew of that point in the car while we are going to the airport and he said don't worry it's fine.
Then, after our return to our home in Canada, I see a amount of 75$ to my credit card named Turo. I asked Turo what is the amound and they said that Andrew charge us a surplus because we not have filled the gaz tank and there was sand in the carpet of the car. A total of 75$ for maybe really 3$ maximum of gaz and some sand in the car ? I find it a little bit exagerrated especially whit what trouble we got. Furthermore, Andrew see that car when he let us at the airport and he didn't say anything.
I'm very disapointed and I surely not recommand this way of doing things. I try to contact Andrew to discuss and I never heard back from him.
So, no I don't recommended neither the car of Andrew for these reasons.
Andrew was great to work with.
The vehicle needs some work, which was communicated to Andrew; and 1 thing he did mention in advance.
If he would get the vent system, transmission, and door lock fixed, I would have rated a 5.
The right side rear door does not lock which made it difficult going places, as we had to take EVERYTHING with us, every time we got out of the car.
The transmission slips, a lot; especially when trying to accelerate from a stop-light or stop-sign.
The vent system has no warm air, so in the rain, or at night in Hawaii humid air, when warm is needed to clear the windshield, all that came out was ice-cold air causing condensation and poor visibility. This is very unsafe for driving, especially at night.
