This is an AWD SUV that I rented in Denver. I called the owner of the vehicle a month before my trip and the day before my trip to confirm that the vehicle was safe and adequate to drive in the snow. It snows often in Denver in January. I get to the car and the tires are completely bald. I call him and let him know as I am standing outside the car that the tires are seriously UNSAFE. I drive in the snow in Lake Tahoe, CA on the regular (12+ times a year) and I know what is safe and how to drive in the snow. He tells me the tires are "Low Profile" and that they are okay. What a joke. I feel like the owner renting out a car like this is unsafe for the conditions that are presented in the owner's home area, which is ridiculous. I could not drive to my destination some days during a storm there because his vehicle had very bald tires. This ruined my trip and I highly recommend that you do not rent a car from Sopheang. Good thing there is the shuttle, so I took this to get around. Basically rented a car for nothing. I hope this review is seen and considered before renting from this guy, he blatantly lied to me multiple times about the vehicle being snow safe/ready.
Picked up the vehicle and the Service Engine Soon light was on at least partly due to an overdue oil change. Upon driving the vehicle, found out that is was very low on coolant and also low on oil. It became quite a safety issue as well as the owner had not driven or prepared the vehicle prior to picking it up as the windshield wiper lines were frozen and had to stop several times to pour windshield wiper fluid on the windshield that I had to purchase. Also had to stop and buy bmw compatible oil and coolant to bring the levels up to a drive able level. About half way through my week trip, the brakes began squealing and was very concerned that the brake pads were so worn that the brakes might give out. This vehicle needs some serious repairs before being rented or driven by anyone again.
Tires were OK, but not great for a mountain trip in the snow. Battery alert light and tire pressure light were on, which was worrisome. Car was clean, pick-up and drop-off went well. Sopheang gave me a ride back to my hotel, which was great. His wife came out into the freezing cold to turn the car on and warm it up for me. (Warm seats...mmmm!) It would be nice to have a car manual in glove compartment to know how to operate BMW systems, as we had some trouble with temperature regulation. Would rent again.
The car is not bow quality and there were many issues with the car as well. the wind shield wipers were in terrible shape, I had to put oil in the car, a indicator light came on(one thats a yellow exclamation point), it seemed like it had some transmission issues shifting through the gears...it would get stuck at the top of gears and rev high reps before it shifted(it is an automatic). There were some smaller issues also but just makes the car less desirable. The controls to roll the windows up and down are not properly mounted in the car. When you pull up to roll windows back up you lift the whole section out of the arm rest. The last thing i had a problem with was the shocks on the rear lift gate, the could barely support the weight of the gate lifted and would sometimes fall on me while i was getting stuff out of the back. I wouldn't rent this car again or recommend it either.
