This is a fully restored automatic transmission 1986 VW Vanagon GL Westfalia- Vanagon Westys are quite possibly the world's most exquisitely designed camper vans. Simply put, there is no better vehicle for traveling and exploring the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. Goldie is a compact, nimble, aesthetic camper that parks and drives more like a car than an RV, but can sleep 4 adults comfortably and sports a fully functioning, propane-powered kitchenette. It is lifted with upgraded suspension (shocks, springs, bushings, tires) and powered by a modern Ford Zetec motor, correcting the few flaws of the stock design and rendering the best wild camping spots in the region yours for the taking.

If you ever want to rent a camper van Mike is your guy. Great vehicle great service by Mike.
Goldie the Westy is rad. My wife and I rented the Westy and proceeded to plan one of the best trips we have ever been on around this awesome van! The Westfalia is the ultimate road tripping machine and it's hard to understand that until you spend a week living in a one. Everything in Goldie serves a convenient purpose. We took this Golden chariot from the west coast of Olympic National Park to the East side of the Northern Cascades, camping everywhere in between. She got us up mountain forrest roads to high trail heads and through Washington pass without skipping a beat. The van is retro but very well taken care of. There's something pretty awesome about driving a westfalia through the PNW. You will get the westy wave a lot and even the most seasoned road trippers will drop the "nice westy" line when you are roaming around in a rig like Goldie. Mike is really easy to communicate with and very helpful with any questions about the van. His vans are all very well taken care of and he keeps them running strong. He also gave me some incredible personal recs on places to see and camp. The one thing I would recommend is bringing or buying an ice chest if you plan on being out for a long stretch as the fridge can only hold so much. Goldie was built in 1986 the same year we were. This made it all the more special for us. I'll miss hiking around a corner and seeing the westy nose peaking through the trees at us waiting for us to return to camp. All in all, for weeks to come we will be dreaming of cruising through the mountains in Goldie, windows down listening to Jim James with no plan on where we will end up next. Thanks for sharing Goldie Mike. We will be back as soon as we can!
Mike was awesome about getting us into Goldie (our Westy for the trip). He walked us through everything, including the quirks of the van, and made sure we were comfortable before heading off. He also was super responsive with questions we had before the trip which made our planning much easier. We've recommended him to everybody we've talked to who is interested in renting a Westy!
Our trip, with Black Forest Westfalias, was awesome. The process was easy and Mike is great. Love that he has chosen to share his classic vans with the public. We got to experience "Goldie" with a just installed upgraded engine and it performed flawlessly, up and down numerous mountain passes through British Columbia and the Cascades. Mike truly cares about his vans and it shows. These vans are not for everyone. They are over 30 years old and need to be treated with patience and extra care. You need to have the mindset to "want to" pull over frequently, to let just about everyone else pass you. You can't be in a rush. They are meant to be driven around 45 mph, barefoot, with the windows down and the music up. While fun to drive, the van shines when parked. It is the perfect camp. Already imagining (planning) our next trip.
Mike is a good guy and did right by us. We had a few hiccups along the way (none of which were his fault), Mike was accommodating and responsive and helped us make the best of an imperfect situation. He was patient through a few frustrating moments for all of us, and made sure we were set to enjoy our weekend.
I would recommend 100%. Very fun to drive around and camp in a Westy!
I could not be happier with our decision to book Goldie from Black Forest Westfalias. We really had the time of our lives. The owner Mike was great to work with. At time of pickup he took the time to walk us through how to operate all of the van's functions. During our trip he took a couple calls from me to patiently walk me through a couple details I had forgotten. The pick-up and drop-off took place as scheduled. I would highly recommend renting from Mike. He's the type of person you want to do business with and his vans are really nice and clean. If you have never spent a week roaming the PNW and living in a van down by the river, you are definitely missing out!
I highly recommend. Mike was quick to answer any and all of our questions. He made sure we had a good plan for our trip and made us feel right at home in Goldie. We couldn't have asked for a better rental to explore the PNW. We will be back! THANKS!
My wife and I loved renting Mike's Vanagon. The van is in amazing condition and drives so much better than other Westys we've had experience with. We drove another Westy the week before, and the van was not even close to as nice as Mike's Westy. The van has been tastefully modified with items that truly improve the experience. The suspension is incredibly smooth and worked great getting into the Hoh rainforest. Mike was incredibly helpful every step of the process and we plan on renting from him again. This was one of the most fun things we've done in years.
To celebrate "ten years of friendship" my gal pal flew over from London for a road trip. We drove all over the Olympic Penninsula and Goldie was the star. She never let us down, kept us warm, dry and safe.
The owner, Mike, was very kind and thorough when he gave us the "Goldie Tour." (She comes with a kitchen, multiple sleeping areas and each lever has a job & function.) Although she is a few decades old, she is extremely reliable. I believe that is because she is extremely well taken care of by her owner.
