Drive the future now! This is one of the first of the fastest mass produced EV (Electric Vehicle) produced by TESLA MOTOR COMPANY. As one of the first 1,000 made it comes in Signature Red making it a very rare car (think 1953 Corvette or 1955 T-Bird). With 416 HP @ ZERO RPM, its single RWD motor pulls .92Gs doing 0-60 in 4.2 seconds (3.9 according to Motor Trend) and is the SAFEST vehicle made in America. When we were trying to decide whether or not to buy one we rented a Model S for 10 days because for us a 30 minute "test drive" did not answer all our questions. Here is your chance to drive one of the first models of the car which changed automotive history. This car is used sparingly and is entered in shows. It can charge on Tesla's Super Charger network, as well as from almost any other source. We recharge primarily at home from wind and sun.
Driver should be over 25 years old and will need to pick up return the car at our residence.
We have two sets of tires and wheels that are changed seasonally, the summer tires are 21" on Tesla Silver Cyclone wheels, and the winter set are 19" on Tesla 10 Spoke wheels. The tire and wheel combination which will be available to you varies with which time of year you rent the car.
Snow tires or chains
Must be age 30+ to rent
This car is entered in auto shows. Please do not eat or drink anything other than water inside the car. This car is available only to non-smokers.
How far will it go on a single charge?
The "Rated Range" on flat terrain at 65 MPH is 256 miles on a single charge. The longest distance we have gone on a single charge is 225 miles at posted freeway speeds (at that time 75 MPH). Range will decrease with increased speed and increase with decreased speeds.
2012 Tesla Model SJason's Tesla1551
My son and I rented Jason's Tesla because we both love cool cars. Not only was the whole trip fun, there was so much more to the electric car experience than just its looks and technology -- when you walked up to it after the super charger had worked its magic, there was a philosophy-aura that gave you pause -- wow! This is the way of the future -- the fossil fuel golden age is waning and to drive this gorgeous Tesla is like realizing the future of cars (aka clean energy) is so close -- and so very doable! Thanks Jason for reminding us it's ok to let the past really become the past -- it has laid the groundwork for a really great future! Now if Tesla would just get their affordable mid-sized up and going, my hybrid will also become a fond memory!
