The 2013 Audi A4 and its hot S4 sibling have undergone a mild mid-cycle refresh, which includes the new Audi family front end among other exterior updates, and a plush new interior. The A4’s base 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine carries over unchanged, with 211 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque on tap. The A4 is available in front-wheel drive paired with a continuously variable transmission, or with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system and either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The driver-centric QAudi S4 gets a bigger engine and standard all-wheel drive, with a choice of six-speed manual or quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions. Audi will tell you the S4 is turbocharged (“mechanically turbocharged” when really pushed), but to us the S4’s 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque is supercharged in nature.
