Get Smart! What can I say, I love driving the Smart Car, Bender. This little "tin can" has a lot of personality and is a blast to drive! Perfect for quick trips across town to run errands like picking up groceries, or a yoga class. It's also great for a mini-road trip to the beach or through the gorge! USB or AUX ports you can hook your own device with. Fuel efficient.

Anthony's smart car was a great little car to get around Portland and the surrounding area! Anthony was very quick to respond to all messages and super easy to work with. Pickup/drop off went smoothly. This car also gets great gas mileage. My only qualm with this trip was how the car drives. I've never driven a smart car before, so maybe all are like this, but it's very jerky when changing speeds and the steering wheel is very difficult to turn at times. I got used to it, but just thought I'd give a heads up to future drivers!
First, Tony was extremely communicative and supportive while we used his car. He quickly answered all of our questions and was very friendly in doing so, so I don't fault him at all. I also know that many Turo owners don't see their cars between users, so it's really on us to take care of the cars. That said, it was clear that the previous user hadn't felt the need to do that. There were loads of leaves and other street debris (not trash) in the floorboards, which was a weird way to begin our trip.
There was also some strange slippage in the gear shifting—the car revved and heaved in a really unnatural way between gears (though we mostly alleviated this by driving the car a bit harder than I really felt comfortable doing in a car that wasn't mine). It also died while we were at an intersection on three separate occasions.
We communicated the mechanical issues to Tony, and he advised us that smartcars' transmissions behave more like a manual than an automatic (the car is automatic, though). That said, the ferocity with which the car heaved felt more powerful than shifting in a manual, and it felt very unnatural to have to push it so hard to keep it from shifting that way. That may be on me and my driving style, though.
All in all, it's a difficult trip to rate, because while we were satisfied with the vehicle, the cleanliness thing and the power issues did affect our time in the car.
Great little car! I won't say too much because overall the trip and car rental was seamless and just what we wanted. The USB/aux hookup didn't seem to work but the radio got us through! Would rent from Anthony again and recommend his car.
Thanks for a great trip! Anthony was flexible with be extending my trip (both before and after). This little car drove me through some beautiful Oregon countryside and got awesome gas mileage! I really appreciated being able to pick up and drop off in the city, that was a big plus for me.
I booked a last minute rental with Anthony and took his car to the coast to check out Tillamook state park. He was really quick to respond to my questions through text and very nice. The car was comfortable and has great mileage. Thanks so much Anthony!
The car was a great last minute option for us to head to the coast. It is compact and a bit cozy on a longer ride, but still had plenty of room for our bags and made it around the hills in Astoria just fine! A plus was being able to run a few errands around town before we returned the car.
Easy, straightforward pick-up / drop-off.
Yet again, Bender was up to the challenge! Portland's savage weather this week couldn't even stop him. I'm pretty impressed with this little car. It handled the precarious weather conditions with spunk. Thanks Anthony!
