Large, fast, loud and proud, the Mercedes-AMG GT is an uproarious supercar that never fails to thrill
With the AMG GT, Mercedes has made a Porsche 911 rival. Except it hasn’t, because what it’s made is a front-engined, two-seat coupé, where Porsche’s car is famously a rear-engined four-seater.
Is it a successor to the mighty SLS AMG, then; a bulging mass of brawn thinly disguised by a designer suit? Well, no, not really – the GT is considerably less expensive (and, says Mercedes, considerably less of a handful, too).
It’s got to be going after the BMW M6, then, as it’s priced similarly? Nope – the BMW is a fast version of a luxurious grand tourer, while the Merc is a sporty standalone model.
The truth is the Mercedes-AMG GT is all of these things, and none of them. Confused yet? Well, grab a cup of tea and a comfortable seat, and we’ll explain all.
NO SMOKING IN THE CAR $250 CLEANING FEE.
