Rediscover the joys of driving a simple car! There are many reasons why the Miata holds the Guiness world record as the best-selling roadster of all time, but the simple truth is - it's mad fun. It's a cult classic, a consummate antidote to road rage, a magic mood-lifter, a telepathic dance partner. It's the answer to... well, everything.
Whether you are a pathological car nut or just someone looking to enjoy a Sunday drive, this is your car. Since its debut in 1990 the Miata has evolved to keep up with the times. This one is a darn clean example of the very first year of the very first generation, the car that started it all: a burbly 1.6L four-cylinder, 50/50 weight distribution and a paltry 2,000 pounds to fling about on four skinny tires. And, of course, it's a manual and it's rear-wheel-drive.
The car is tiny. Driving through a sea of beige and gray, everything else on the road will seem like a bloated monstrosity. This can be weirdly amusing and you may catch yourself grinning silly. Don't be alarmed - this is normal. Especially if the top is down and the sun is out.
(I love driving new cars. If anyone is interested in doing a car swap - you drive mine, I drive yours - I'd love to!)
- I'd be happy to deliver the car anywhere in the DC/MD/NoVA - If you give me a ride back to Laurel or Greenbelt metro I will waive the delivery fee - An additional charge may apply to deliveries more than 20 miles from Laurel, MD. - If you aren't sure whether delivery can be arranged, send me a message and we'll work something out
I do my best to keep this car as clean and original as possible. Thus, I kindly ask that in the car there be:
no smoking no eating no coffee or sticky beverages no drivers who do not know how to drive a manual transmission
Can I drive it in the rain?
Absolutely - just don't put the top down. The car was designed to be used in all weather, i.e. it does not leak.
Your car is lovely, but it's 27 years old. Is it reliable?
Like the rising sun. It's Japanese, has ridiculously low mileage and it's been well-maintained. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
How do I open the stupid gas tank?
I feel your frustration. The gas tank release is in the cubby between the seats.

I can't recommend renting from Lenny highly enough. He is generous, communicative, and knowledgeable about his car. The car itself is a dream.
What a great experience! The car has a wonderful sound, something like baritone opera singer. I turned of the radio after 30seconds, as it felt wrong to cover the engine. Lenny was very kind and positive. Couldn't be any better.
So wonderful of Lenny to share his car with this community! Have wanted to drive a Miata for decades. It did not disappoint. Took it out to Shenandoah on Skyline Dr, really appreciated the handling on the twists and turns. Real easy to work with Lenny, highly recommended.
This was the absolutely the best best best! Amazing car - it looked and felt like a brand new car, but more fun!
I can't say enough about how clean and well maintained this car is - I would feel comfortable taking it anywhere (or at least anywhere there aren't big potholes, luckily it's small enough to avoid them in DC!)
It rained just a bit while we had it and even that was just fine. I loved it so much I would recommend someone buy a 1990 Miata!
Lenny is a great communicator and generous to let this baby be enjoyed by others! Follow his awesome and helpful advice and all is awesome. !!!
Awesome! Leonid (Lenny) was friendly, punctual, and accommodating. The car was immaculate, and Leonid gave me a thorough rundown on top operation, clutch engagement, fuel filler access, etc. He even kept a detailed cheat sheet of car information and "what to do if ___" instructions stored in the glove box. Overall, he did his best to make sure I had the best experience possible; I would absolutely rent from him again!
The car itself is an absolute sweetheart. If you're even looking at renting a manual, first generation Miata, then you probably already know all the stats: 50/50 weight distribution, just over 2,000 pound curb weight, tight handling, and so on and so on. As any reviewer or automotive journalist will tell you, Miatas have become the benchmark against which all other fun, affordable sports cars are measured. Leonid's car is a prime example of an original: well-maintained, immaculate interior, unmodified, and very low-mileage (right around 60k miles when I drove it).
Having finally driven this 1990 Miata, I completely understand the appeal of these cars - the hype is real! The top goes up and down effortlessly (who needs a heavy power roof?). The stubby manual shifter is a joy to use, the engine loves to rev, and the car feels glued to the road when you take it through the twisties. It's light, nimble, and communicative. All of my miles were logged with the top down, and I don't think I stopped smiling once. In spite of all its positive reviews, this is a car you simply have to drive to fully appreciate - it's even better than you think!
In a world where automobiles are constantly getting bigger and heavier while demanding less involvement from their drivers, the Miata is a breath of fresh air. With manual steering, no ABS, no traction/stability control, three pedals and a stick, it actually requires YOU to pay attention and drive. I forgot how satisfying it was to be so involved in the driving process. Lovely car. What a treat.
If you need a break from bloated, over-assisted, dumbed down motoring, I absolutely recommend renting Leonid's Miata! Driving such a simple, involving car will clear your head and remind you what driving is supposed to feel like - it's the automotive equivalent of a factory reset.
My only warning: it's addicting. Modern cars won't feel the same once you've been spoiled by the Miata. You may even find yourself, as I have, staying up late, browsing ads, chasing the next fix, hoping to find one as pristine as Leonid's.
After this experience, it's only a matter of time before I have a Miata of my own. Until then, I'll have to keep renting from Lenny. Cheers!
Lenny is a great guy. Easy to work with, communicative, and always quick to respond. The car is amazing and a blast to drive, truly a pristine driving experience from the past. Highly recommend to anyone.
