If you want to sample the EV experience (instant acceleration & serenity), but don't want to spend $150+/day in a Tesla.....the BMW i3 is your answer. This unique BEV (battery electric vehicle) will give you approx 90-120 miles of range (depending on driving style etc). It has the full Tech Package with adaptive cruise control (awesome for bumper2bumper traffic), Sirius/XM, GPS (split screen), and full 'Tera' leather interior. What is overlooked with this i3 is the numerous similarities it has with a McLaren sports car (full carbon fiber chassis, rear wheel drive, mid-engine, staggered rims & extremely light @ 3K pounds). Yet it fits 4 adults with coach-style 'suicide' doors (FYI - I'm 5'10" and have no issues sitting in the back seat). The interior is spacious (bigger than a BMW 3-Series) and the i3 sits up high like most SUVs but, has a low center of gravity, due to the weight of the battery module underneath the chassis.
To recharge this i3 you have a few options ranging from 4 miles/hour (Level 1; common 120v receptacle), to 20/miles/hour (Level 2; 240v) up to 80miles/hour (Level 3 or DC Fast Charge). L1 can be done at home, L2 locations are easy to find with the Plugshare app. This i3 includes a subscription for charging in the ChargePoint network (most locations are free or <.50/hour etc).
This i3 is located exactly halfway between Boston Logan and TF Green/Providence airports, in the suburbs of western Mass.

This BMW i3 is amazing. Plenty quick, rides smooth, has a modern design (aka people will stare at you everywhere you go), and it charges extremely quickly at the Level 3 charging stations we used. Ted was great to work with as well. He was very responsive, left clear, easy to follow directions for pick up and drop off, and was kind enough to walk us through our first all electric rental. If you are thinking about renting this car, DO IT! You will not be disappointed. Five stars all around.
