Electric/gas hybrid. Plug the car in or fill it with gas.
There are lots of free spots to charge the car around the island. This could mean some serious savings on gas!!
If the electric charge runs out while you are driving, there is a gas tank for back-up so you won't get stuck!
Here's a link to the Electric charging stations on Kauai.
There is also an app you can download for your phone.
Please note that if you are asking for the car to be delivered, I am happy to bring you the car for free as long as you are willing to drop me off at my home in Kapaa, centrally located on Kauai. (This is maybe 10 minutes away from the airport.) Otherwise, I will ask for my cab fare home ($30) in exchange for delivery.
The same applies to when you return the car. I will ask that you bring the car back to my home in Kapaa and I will happily drive you back to the airport for free.
When flying into LIH airport, please provide me with your flight info so i can track it and be waiting for you curbside at baggage claim when you arrive. :) Let me know if you will be waiting for baggage or not so I can best gauge when to be waiting for you. Please be sure to text me when you land.
I am happy to answer questions about where to go, things to do, and places to stay. Feel free to use me as a local resource! :)
Also here is a weblink for things to do:
We even have a place to stay if you are looking. Message me for details.
If you want to know a bit about me, we were recently featured on an episode of Hawaii Life on HGTV.
Rules include no smoking in or near the car and no off-roading with the car.
If you want to drive on dirt roads, such as to Polihale, please book a different car.
If you get the car dirty inside or out, please clean it prior to return.
If there is damage or extra cleaning needed, you will be billed accordingly.
I do not expect a full charge when it is returned; however, I do expect that the gas tank is at the same level when first rented.

Janine was super easy to work with. She met us at the airport, the car was clean and worked great, etc. Dropoff was easier than expected since she ended up needing us to leave it at the airport. We weren't able to clean the car as well as we had hoped, but Janine seemed fine with that too. All. In all a great experience!
Pick up and drop off at Lihue was convenient. Car could have been a bit cleaner. Jeanine needs to communicate better about including the 110V charging cord. It was not included with our pickup, and we weren't able to charge at our hotel as much as we'd like. Neighboring properties with L2 stations either weren't working or wouldn't allow anyone other than registered guests, even though I offered to pay a daily parking rate.
Everything about this trip was easy and convenient. Janine had someone meet us at the airport, take us to the car and get us started. There was a full battery charge and off we went. Because our hotel for the week had a car charger, we didn't have to look for and use public chargers. Traveling away from the hotel the last day, however we did have trouble finding charge stations. Good thing we had that engine. The car ran perfectly and using the electric power was fun. The only detraction was that the car was substantially dirty. We had two big bags and two golf bags so we had the back seat down. Our first stop for groceries included wipes to clean the dash and other surfaces. If we had people in the back we would have to do more cleaning. Not a reason to pass up this fun and reliable rental. Thanks, Janine!
The whole renting process went very smoothly and I was out on the road in minutes of arriving in Kaua'i. Janine responded to my questions and concerns quickly and was a great host. The car is also a hybrid so I saved a ton of money on gas. The cost to fill the car would probably be around $20.00. My trip lasted five days and I only filled up on gas once. I highly recommend renting this car from Janine.
Using the Chevy Volt through Turo made our Kauai trip! The owner delivered the car to the airport; was waiting right outside baggage claim when we landed. The Volt got us to every coast of the island. In 4 days, we only spent $35 on gas including giving it back with a full tank...so cost efficient and easy. We had a couple of questions for the owner of the Volt and she was readily available each time. She offered tourist attractions and suggestions, very friendly and helpful on our trip. We are so thankful for the Volt experience that now I want to own one myself! Loving Turo as well. No hidden fees, just easy no worry vacation. Mahalo
Great car and it was super nice to have the electric drive for most of our trips on the island. We used a whopping $24 in gas for our entire 2 weeks on the island. This includes many trip up and down the north shore. Janine was also a pleasure to work with and very accommodating. The pickup and drop-off at the airport curb couldn't have been more smooth. We will want to rent your car again, Janine, the next time we come. :) Mahalo!
Janine was very nice however we a had a lot of issues with the car. When we received the car it was filthy and looked like it hadn't been in cleaned in months. It was so gross that I took it to a car wash myself to clean it and couldn't remove several of the stains and vacuum up all of the sand. It's very unprofessional to deliver a rental car in such a gross manner.
In addition the front two tires had no tread at all and needed to be replaced. According to Janine she had an appointment the week after we had the car to get them replaced, however we felt it was unsafe for us to drive with those tires. One of the back tires had a nail or screw in it so it kept losing pressure and in the morning it was completely flat. We ended up having to take a taxi to and from some of our activitictes. Janine took the car to get that tire and the front two replaced but as a result we were left without a car for most of the day and still had to pay for it. The car also had squeaky brakes. The car had a great AC and good gas mileage however I would NOT rent from her again or reccomend this car to anyone.
Fantastic! A very zippy little car, just what you need to get used to driving in the right side side of the road lol I think only having to pay for a single gallon of fuel was the best part and having a free charging station across the road at Safeway ☺️☺️
Janine was very responsive(we texted as our main form of communication and she was always very prompt), super friendly and so accommodating. The Volt hatchback was a great little touring car and got excellent mileage. We didn't end up using the electric charge as we were a bit lazy about getting it to a charge station, but we still only spent $20 on gas for a whole week of traveling anyway! Janine dropped it off to us with a full electric charged as well. Overall, amazing island, great car and great owner experience. Thanks Janine!
