All in all I really liked using Turo and would use it again. The only bad bit was that Turo and the hire company who owned the car don't communicate and their terms differ so we got caught out. When booking with Turo we noted that there was a 2 hour grace period on the return day so that we could return the car 2 hours after the 24hour due time at no extra cost. As a result we selected this option. When we picked up the car we were told that because we had selected to return the car 2 hours after, we were classified as hiring the car for 3 days instead of 2 and 2hours. The car rental company were unable to change the booking to minus the 2 hours. As a result we had to pay a £30 fuel surcharge because we had the car for 3 days and when we wanted to buy insurance we had to pay for 3 days instead of the 2 days that we had hired the car for. In total it was an expensive mistake that meant we paid for an extra day when we did not have the car for that day. Again the hire car company could;t change anything so we couldn't even keep the car for the extra day we had then paid for. I was disappointed that the deal I got with Turo wasn't honoured by the car rental company or that the extra terms and conditions were not explained or obvious prior to making the agreement with Turo. I feel annoyed and scammed that I just paid it at the time because it was Christmas and I was keen to get on the road and see my family.
This was a traditional car hire place - not peer to peer.
Car hired, not available - given a similar but older and not as fun car. (a Ford not a Fiat 500).
Car didn't seem well maintained - chip in windscreen and odd sounds from car in low range. Not freshly cleaned. Inspection facility is underground car park so hard to look for any existing damage.
Car pick up was a 15 minute walk from the rental office.
Insurance included had to be confirmed with head office as not appearing on the booking. Still ended up with a £1250 excess. (Better than the £65,000 excess if no insurance was present).
Credit card details saved on a computer in the rental office, seemingly in plain text. Due to internet being down my CC authorisation had to be done with another office, meaning my card number was also read out to everyone in the office.
Due to there being a queue in the rental office, I wan't driving until 55 mins after start of rental time. This lead to being late for the occasion I was heading to.
Silver lining was the operative at the drop-off point gave me a lift home - which was very kind of him.
