For my first experience using Turo, I was not impressed. I reserved this vehicle a week before my trip. There was no communication between myself and Patrick, the only reason I knew it was approved was because the Turo app sent me a notification. I messaged Patrick, thanking him for letting me rent the vehicle but did not hear anything back. I then, again, messaged Patrick the day before our trip, informing him I wasn't sure how this all worked due to it being my first Turo experience, but I let him know of my arrival time at the airport and asked how the key exchange would occur. I, again, heard nothing back. The next day when we arrived at the Denver Airport, I messaged Patrick AGAIN informing him that we arrived and I was concerned because I still hadn't heard anything back about the vehicle.
From previous reviews, I knew that the communication thing was a problem in the past, and people said it was always cutting it close but everyone else always got their vehicles by their scheduled reservation time. That was not the case for me. My scheduled time to get the vehicle was 1:30, and by that time I heard not a word from Patrick. I called the number provided on his profile and he didn't answer, instead he texted me asking who I was. I told him the situation, to which he told me to text someone named Cindy who would be able to help me out. I did, and she didn't answer. When I texted Patrick that she hadn't communicated back after 15 minutes, he said "sorry, try again, I can't help you".
I tried calling Cindy again, who informed me that she did not have access to her system so she could not find my reservation, and the Honda Accord was not available to be rented anyways. But, she had another vehicle that would be an upgrade for us at no charge. This was fine by us because we finally got in communication with someone and had a plan other than being stranded at the airport. However, for pick up of the vehicle we needed to go to a nearby hotel to meet Cindy for a key exchange. We took a shuttle to the hotel, met Cindy, and finally got the vehicle with no problems - mind you it was now almost 2 hours after our assigned pick up time.
The drop of of the vehicle was also frustrating. The vehicle had to be dropped off back at the hotel, and the key was to be placed in a magnetic key holder and attached to a metal strip underneath the car. There wasn't anyone there to ensure the vehicle got dropped off, so if something would have happened between me dropping off the vehicle in the same condition I received it, and person renting out the vehicle getting it back, there would be no way to know that it was not my fault. Also, the shuttle that brought us to the hotel when we arrived, refused to take us back to the airport because we were not actual customers of the hotel. The driver of the shuttle was very rude (which I don't entirely blame him) because he said this happens a lot with Turo customers because they are not properly informed. So we ended up having to get an uber, which I honestly wish I would have just done in the first place.
During the few days with the vehicle, there were no problems. The vehicle is fine, and runs great, and had someone else rented it out to us and actually communicated with us, this would have been a 5 star experience. But with the customer service I received, I doubt I'll be using this service again.
Asked for instructions no less than 6 times, only to be sent incorrect instructions 30 minutes before scheduled pickup. Car was fine, had high miles, an out of balance tire and made some weird noises when idling, but otherwise drove ok. Pickup worked fine, if not a little unorthodox.
I did not have a good experience renting here.
Firstly, the owner switched the car we were going to be using last minute, as we were on our way to the pick-up location. Also, I did not actually communicate with Patrick, but someone else who was not even mentioned on the profile.
Our second day using the car, the car battery died before we even left the hotel parking lot - it was at the end of its life, and we spent half of our day trying to get a new battery installed so that we could get on with the rest of our trip. An issue that I think could have been avoided if the owner did some simple maintenance on the car - or if I got the car I rented in the first place.
But I will give props to the fact that the owner did work with me and did her best to resolve the battery issue.
However, I would not rent here again.
Patrick upgraded our booking to include his Jeep Cherokee - so we did not rent the Honda Accord. Patrick was super thorough and the car smelled fantastic when we jumped in. We had zero issues whatsoever and it was a sinch to find. Watch out for the "trick" door handle on the drivers side though :)
Everything was great from pickup til drop off. The only thing is the passenger side door doesn't lock or unlock automatically so you'll have to do it yourself. The check engine light came on which had me a bit worried but it went off right as I got gas the morning of return. Overall, good experience. I'd rent again which will be this summer if it's available.
