Great little car to catch the rays and get around in LA! The car has an alarm system but doesn't lock - you can manually use the key to lock the drivers side but no way to lock the passenger side - we knew this going in from other reviews so no surprise! Bit light on the communication at times but still a 5 star experience. Thanks!
Gonzalo was out of town during our trip and didn’t leave anyone as an emergency contact, which caused quite a few issues during our trip. The car is a bit dinged up and dirty, which is fine, but there were several issues that no one had explained to us beforehand:
The car’s doors do not lock. If you try to lock the car with the remote, the car alarm will sound when you open the door. As a result, we could not keep any belongings in the car other than in the trunk.
An aux cord was provided, but it did not work so we had to purchase our own.
When the steering wheel locks, the key refuses to turn all the way to start the engine. You have to move the steering wheel left and right continuously until the key turns all the way.
No one explained the key problem to us and we couldn’t start the car for over an hour, had to call Turo, call a tow truck, etc. We attempted to call Gonzalo, but as he was out of the country it went to voicemail. We had to drive back to the autoshop that we picked the car up from and ask the mechanics how to fix the key problem. They were visibly irritated that we had not contacted Gonzalo first, to which we informed them that he was out of the country and we couldn’t get a hold of him.
Long story short, the car is a bit tricky (which is fine) but Gonzalo failed to tell us how to use it and was unresponsive when we inevitably came across issues.
I really had a blast driving around the Beetle. Concerning the pick up , it was very easy , Gonzalo left me all the instructions. The car wasn't as neat as showed in the pictures but it was fun driving around. For the return it was very easy as I just had to leave it at the LAX Turo return lot. Communication with Gonzalo was fine.
This was one of the best decisions I mad on our trip. So fun to have a convertible. Gonzalo replied quickly when I needed help. Yes there were dings and scratches, but I knew that going in from other reviews and I didn't mind one bit. We didn't sit in the back seat, I did notice some dirtiness in it. It ran great and I never worried about the engine. Very reliable he made pick up and drop off easy. I would recommend him and his cars very highly and am very grateful. My daughter loved it so much and it made the trip very memorable. I am familiar with LA and OC however it was much easier having the convertible down as it helped me be more aware of my surroundings when driving. A+++++++
The car was great for us. We wanted to feel like a movie star and that's what this vehicle did! One thing people may not know is that it comes with a flower slot! You can fill it with water and rock a daisy. :)
I wasn't aware of the big dent on the driver's side, but that's just cosmetic, so not the biggest deal. The car would not lock. The lights flashed as if it was locked, and the alarm would sound if you opened the door, but it would still open, which somewhat concerned me when we left our bags in the car. The convertible was awesome to have in California for sure, though!
I really liked the car and my overall experience with Turo was good... except the car was pretty beat up. We did not expect it to be dented on so many sides and probably would not have chosen this car if we knew. Also the gas was only at a third of a tank when we got it. It would also have been nice to have instructions on how to put the top down.
The trip was everything we could have wanted. We picked up the car offsite off Abbot Kinney and it was very easy to find. The car was perfect for the trip my friend and I were taking. Riding around LA in a convertible was awesome! The only little issue I'd say that there was was when we tried dropping off the car at the airport. The address provided didn't lead us to a specific garage or lot so it was a little confusing. At the lot, there is a shuttle at the hotel next to it that picks up every 30 minutes. Overall, an amazing trip and I'd totally recommend Gonzalo's beetle!
Very easy to communicate with, very responsive. Was a little unsure about why there wasn't airport pick up/drop off as the post says, but based on previous reviews, the relay lots aren't that easy anyway. The little convertible bug was perfect for our trip, but was fairly beat up and worn. But then again, the daily rate was low, most likely reflecting it's age and condition. Regardless, I would definitely rent from Gonzalo again and highly recommend this method of renting a car.
Gonzalo was great. My plans changed last min and I found his listing after landing at LAX. He was quick to respond and flexible to work with. Everything went smoothly and the car itself (convertible buggie) was perfect to cruise around in for the weekend! Thanks Gonzalo!
