There are no outside door handles. The windows don't roll up. The exterior and driver's throne show typical signs of wear. But you won't care about any of that as you rev the ten-cylinder, 400-horsepower engine. Because you don't drive this car... you just hang on.
This first-generation Viper has dangerous acceleration and no anti-lock brakes. Before handing you the key, you must demonstrate that you can drive it around the block safely and handle its manual (stick) transmission. You will also need to tell me whether you want the hard top on or off, as it must remain this way for the duration of your trip. (It is too difficult for new drivers to install or remove.) The windows can be removed at any time and stored in the trunk.
The car has virtually all factory-installed parts, except for an after-market Bluetooth radio in the dash that can connect to your phone. The cigarette lighter houses a USB adapter for charging your accessories.
Refill with premium gas only.

Great car, fun to drive, and dealing with Trevor was great. He was accommodating and helpful.
Unfortunately, at the time we rented the car, there is/was a power steering fluid leak. Trevor had been trying to get it diagnosed (for 6 months), and they had just figured the problem out but didn't have a replacement part yet.
I had to check and refill the power steering fluid about twice a day during our rental. It didn't affect highway driving, but made parking lots and slow speed driving heavy and often linked with a discomfiting squealing noise!
Anyway, it's mechanical, which you'd probably expect anyway from a car 20+ years old. It's got some other squeaks and rattles, and sometimes stalls out at low speeds in traffic, but worth it IMO if you really want to drive a Viper!
Trevor was super easy to deal with though, and I know he'd hoped to have it fixed before we got it. Recommend just checking on that issue for future rentals!
Wow! What an amazing car, we had a blast driving around the Bay Area and really enjoyed our time spent with this awesome American built sports car! It gets a lot of attention and comments from fellow motorists! We even found ourselves coming up with places to go just to have an excuse to get back in it. I would have given 5 stars but we did experience some technical issues during our time with the Viper but Trevor assured me that he is going to have it fixed immediately. That being said, I would definitely rent this Viper again and look forward to working with Trevor the next time I'm in the area.
**make sure you've got a strong left calf if you might get stuck in traffic, the clutch is STIFF!**
Trevor was extremely accommodating and flexible and made my trip easy. The first gen viper has been the poster hanging on every kids wall. Trevor has decided to bring that still photo to life for anyone interested. The car itself is truly something special. Very analog but very comfortable. This car can certainly make a great date night or even a long-distance trip. The car provides enough power to easily pass in 5th gear on the highway without needing to downshift, but should you decide to, the exhaust note is most assuredly enjoyable. The car also receives plenty of attention, and elicits enthusiasm from those at every gas station you stop at. Driving this car is a pleasure and an experience.
