Why burn gas to run errands? Thinking about getting an electric car? Here's your chance to try out an electric car. If this car works for you, any electric car will. My 6 year old all-electric car Nissan LEAF will meet many needs. 50 - 60 miles range, depending on driving style and speed. (The car does NOT have 100 mile range!) It's not for everything. You ain't going to Tahoe. Even Santa Rosa or San Jose will require a fast charge along the way. (Doable, but not super convenient.)
But the car is fun, and you can use the HOV lane. I can let you know about the many public charging stations available; and you can plug it in to a regular outlet at a friend's house, for example. You don't need to return the car fully charged, but the drive back is more pleasant if it's not approaching empty.
What's up with car charging?
Check out PlugShare.com to see all the charging stations in the Bay Area. 120V outlet will charge car at about 4 miles per hour. Most public charging stations will charge car at about 12 miles per hour. DC Fast Charging will add about 50 miles in half an hour. Some public chargers are free; many cost money. I'm happy to explain it all to you.
Did a surf-trip up to Muir Beach and down to Pacifica. Charged at a Walgreens and left it on a street in SF overnight. Great car to do anything in the city – but to my surprise also great for doing mid-length trips!
The acceleration is ridiculously good and the car's completely silent. A great first electric experience!
Marc was flexible, communicative and did a great job of getting me up to speed on how to drive an EV on the first day (super easy). Then filled me in on some of the backstory on EVs in SF when I gave it back!
Highly recommended – will definitely rent again for local zero emission surf trips.
Marc is a cool dude with a cool car. He takes care of his car and explains its usage very thoroughly. I've never driven an electric vehicle before this trip and could not be happier with this experience. I will look forward to borrowing Marc's car again in the future.
Another 5 star review for Marc! He is super friendly, extremely knowledgable about everything EV, and happy to share his knowledge. This was my first time using Turo and Marc made it a smooth enjoyable experience. He was clear about the status of the car's 6 year old battery, and provided helpful links and apps regarding charging stations. Thanks for everything!
Marc was beyond helpful with introducing the world of EVs to a first timer. The pick up and drop off were seamless and he genuinely wanted to help educate anyone interested in trying an electric vehicle. Would rent from him again if I hadn't gotten an EV of my own!
The reviews are true! Marc was super accommodating. I enjoyed driving an electric car for the first time with Marc's help and guidance when introduced. Would definitely rent from Marc again. Especially since he's super helpful and willing to communicate at all times. Would recommend!
Marc's Nissan Leaf was great for what we needed to accomplish. Keep in mind that this is an all-electric EV, so plan your trip accordingly. We had to make an unplanned detour to the south bay and were able to find free/cheap fast charging stations using the PlugShare app. Marc was incredibly accommodating and explained the ins and outs of driving an EV. I would definitely rent from him again.
Marc's Nissan is an awesome car for short trips. You will enjoy it. Marc - super cool and helpful guy with great attitude. If you are new to EVs (as myself) he will provide you all info you need. I'd give him 10 stars if I could.
Had a great time driving Marc's Nissan Leaf up to Muir Woods and Marin County. It was my first time driving an electric car, but Marc explained everything and gave us some good tips on how to maximize the charge and get the most out of the car. I absolutely loved driving up hills with the car!
If I ever need a car in SF again I won't hesitate to rent from Marc again.
It's the first time I drove a Nissan Leaf and the overall experience was really really good.
He helped me to see all the apps to localise charging station in the Bay Area and it went all smooth, he's a real Electric Vehicles Ambassador!
Suggestion: try to find free fast chargers near your destination and use ECO mode
Everything about this experience deserves 5 stars. Marc is an electric car enthusiast, and he has a very positive attitude about overcoming the overwhelming barriers presented by the fossil fuel infrastructure.
I rented his Leaf for a trip up all the way up to Auburn, with stops at my grandparents' place in Citrus Heights, and another friend's place in Rocklin. Needless to say, a daunting trip for a car that gets 60 to 80 miles per charge, depending on your driving style. Marc was very upfront about the challenges in coordination and down-time spent charging, but I think he liked that I viewed it all as an adventure.
Marc was very thorough in explaining the variety of private and public charging infrastructure, as well as the real-time info available on the Leaf's dashboard.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend!
My first time driving an electric car was a very good experience. Marc showed us how to use the car and told us where we could charge it. The charging stations at Muir Woods visitor center had the best parking spots in the area, for free! Will def rent from Marc again.
Great trip! The Leaf rides really smoothly and Marc was really helpful - he walked through handling so we knew exactly what to expect. Made it to Oakland for the day and back with plenty of battery left.
Whoopee! This is my secnd rental from Marc and he is simple AWESOME. Car was charged, ready to go. Marc reviewed me on the differences between his 2011 LEAF and 2013 (I drive a 2013 of my own at home) Used the LEAF to drive electric from SFO to my Aunt's farm in Sacramento River Delta (Yes, folks, there IS a free J1772 charging station in Rio Vista, CA at the City Hall) Brought back fresh produce from my Aunt's Farm to Marc's Household. Marc also told me about Greenlots.com, yet another charging network that offers some free charging spots around the Bay Area.
Helpful, nice, informative, glitch-free rental experience!!
CHEERS! See ya next time I'm in SF, Marc!
Marc is very patient, as well as extremely knowledgable about electric vehicles. He relentlessly, kindly and helpfully responded to our many, many questions, and made our rental experience smooth and enjoyable. I would highly recommend his Nissan Leaf rental offer, as it allowed us to easily make our San Francisco and Marin County trips, and support both ecologically sustainable transportation, and not have to buy gas from the pathetic, socially subsidized, greedy, monster oil companies, that have us all locked into destroying our planet. Thanks, Marc!
Marc is awesome and all went as told and easily. My 44 mile round trip from SFO to San Mateo was uneventful- a good thing- and by going electric, I prevented between 19 and 54 pounds of carbon spewing into the air (see www.debgoesgreen.com to view my annual carbon count):-) Thanks Marc! You delivered the goods!
This car is a great ride and a great experience. Marc was very caring and detailed in his explanations of how to manage the charge. He had asked for our itinerary beforehand and helped us plan the route with the appropriate charging stations that we'd need. He's really passionate about electric cars and I highly recommend renting his car if you are at all curious about the future of electric automotive transportation.
Marc was very friendly and easy to communicate with, and provided me with all the information one would need to use the electric vehicle. The car was clean and ready to use, and I had a wonderful experience driving it. Would very much like to rent it again.
