The interior of the car is smelly and I believe there is something wrong with the automatic shift gear - you can feel a significant delay in shifting from the 1st to 2nd gear. The car has a few damages to it before I rent it - not in a very good shape but still functional.
Hands down the best car rental experience! This was our first time using Turo and we loved it! The smart car was a nice ride for around town during our stay in LA. Great gas mileage! Gerard's smart car did us well though it did take some getting used to for driving this little nugget. We enjoyed learning to drive the smart and thoroughly creative way to rent.
This car is not for the faint of heart. Drives like a Go-Kart and at 88K miles the check engine light turned on after only renting it for an hour. The whiplash on this sucker and small space make for an uncomfortable ride. The driver side seatbelt is completely twisted and the gas mileage is not great. No thanks. The guys renting it are nice.
As always, Gerard was absolutely wonderful, and the car ran flawlessly. I recommend renting from Gerard because there is no one on whom a renter can count to be on top of things the way Gerard is from confirming trips exceptionally quickly to making certain the trip goes well to turning in the car--in short, from the very start of the trip to the very end of it.
The car was easy to drive and it was defentily a plus that the car is so small cause it was so easy to park! However, the lock on the key did not work twice and when I opened it manually the alarm went off. The car was also really dirty both outside and inside when I got it. I could barely see through the windows.
Gerard was absolutely TERRIFIC! If you want absolute certainty about your upcoming trip, Gerard is your guy. I did the normal procedure on the Turo Website that a user must do to book a trip. Obviously, Turo sent a message to Gerard. Then, literally in what was certainly less than fifteen minutes, Gerard had confirmed the trip. I spoke to him by telephone immediately thereafter, and he was exceptionally professional and kind. Later, when I had to extend the trip--twice, actually--I received his text confirmations once again immediately after I sent my own texts requesting an extension, almost instantaneously for the second extension. This REALLY takes the uncertainty and therefore the worry out of the entire process when you really need a car the next day. Instead of spending time making back-up plans, you go about your day as usual because Gerard has made it simple by confirming immediately. This is really great when renting a car initially, but it is just REMARKABLY MAGNIFICENT when requesting an extension because an extension is often genuinely important due to actual need, not simply for fun and games. [Note: Most of us prefer to book a longer trip rather than an extension and to book an extension only when necessity dictates because an extension costs more as per Turo's rules, not Gerard's, so quick confirmations of extensions do, in fact, actually make life MUCH easier.] Even beyond his timeliness, Gerard serves up a generous plate of customer service in other ways as well. Finally, I must mention that the entire transaction went absolutely smoothly in every other manner. The car was ready on time, was very clean both inside and out, had a full gas tank, ran flawlessly, and the car drop-off was also easy. I highly recommend Gerard's Smart ForTwo and especially Gerard himself without reservation and encourage anyone to rent from him. I am certain the most discrimination customer will be more than satisfied.
