As precious reviews noted, the check engine light turned on shortly after I picked up the car, and there was no registration in the car. I didn't notice that right away, and I would have been in big trouble if I had gotten pulled over. It should also be noted that the car has manual locks and windows, and a few stains on the upholstery. Other than all that, it did what unneeded it to do. The listing said pickup at baggage claim and drop off at the terminal were possible, but that was not true. I had to take the Hilton shuttle, walk behind the hotel, and pick up the car in an alley. To be fair, that actually wasn't any less convenient than a rental car company.
Jon was amazing! This car gets great mileage and allowed me to go to Irvine from LA to visit my friend as well as explore the city during my two day layover. I was a bit over on the mileage but Jon was flexible. Would recommend
Everything worked well with Jon, he was replying within a couple of minutes and having the car delivered near a hotel was very convenient and using the free shuttles it saved time and money. The car was not new or anything like that but was very reliable, good AC and it took me where I needed to be. I will definitely rent with Jon again when going to LA.
Very easy to get the car and super friendly. The car was very beat up, dirty and the gas wasn't full. Also the USB slot didn't work. Overall I didn't pay much for the car so not much was expected but still. These guys are very nice and helpful though!
Keep in mind that this Turo rental operates through some type of car rental company; this is not one individual person, but a company with a HQ by a back alley. In the 12 hours before my trip, I had kept my contact up-to-date on when I would be arriving. Once I arrived at LAX and called the provided number, the person on the other end said they would come pick me up. We waited 30 minutes, and no pickup came, so I called again. This time, I was given another person to talk to, who said they would come pick me up. It took another 30 minutes and several calls to actually get someone to pick us up and take us to the car.
The car I rented was not the car that was given to me. Instead, a much lower-quality car (a circa-2007 Hyundai with roll-down windows) was given to me, and I didn't have a choice in the matter. We didn't have any alternative, so we felt forced to accept the car. I took pictures of the car, and am glad I did, because the back of the car had a dent in it.
On the road, halfway through our trip on the first day, the check engine light turned on. I also noticed significant problems with the car's ability to accelerate. If I tried to accelerate at more than ~2-3 mph per second, the car would jerk and not actually speed up. It felt very unsafe, but at that point, returning to get a better car was not a viable option.
I didn't actually even meet Jon. It wasn't until I landed did he give me some random number to call to get the car. It's not that I had a problem getting the car from someone else but I was told that he was the one I would be getting the car from so I am not really into that. The check engine light was also on when we got into the car. There was a weird lagging every now and then in the car, like when you put it into reverse it would jerk forward slightly or when driving on the highway it would occasionally feel like the car would jerk back. Very strange. The USB hook up for your iPhone didn't work either. Just slightly annoying when you like to play music while driving. So I had to purchase a AUX cord. Other then that it was very very clean and convenient to get right from the airport.
WARNING! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! About two weeks ago I was in California with my girlfriend visiting friends and going sight seeing when I decided to try turo out. Seeing as there seems to be way better deals than rental agencies offer it sounded like a no brainer. Nope, you truly get what you pay for. I arrived with the assumption I was meeting an individual to rent his car, as that is the basis of this app, to my surprise it is actually a used car rental place. This didn't really bother me too much but I did find it weird. Next came the walk around. Stains all over the seats, garbage stuffed in broken compartments of the car, a general feeling of disgust. I attempt to take a look under the hood, it doesn't open. I inquire and the guy showing me the car explains you need two people to open it. He helps, I look, latch is broken, no big deal. I take a look at the dash, check engine light is on. I inquire, guy says "it's a problem with the oil sensor, don't worry about it". I say to myself "its a cheap car it is what it is". I then preceded to drive to the place I was staying. The car drove alright except every once in a while when you accelerate the rpms would shoot up then drop making the car buck. All of this was annoying but it wasn't the end of the world for me. So the next day me and my girlfriend take a trip to the beach and while we're driving (a few hours away from where I was staying) a women pulls up next to me and says "neither one of your brake lights work". Being that this is dangerous I pull over and immediately call the rental agency to see how to we can fix the issue in a timely matter. The first thing this guy says to me is "the lights worked when I gave you the car" so I respond "how do you figure I managed to blow out both brake lights in a day? You clearly gave me the car like this and not only that but this car isn't even legal to drive in this condition" to which he responded "we are not a regular car rental agency, we have old cars and old cars have issues this is a normal problem" flabbergasted with his complete indifference I said "you have a responsibility as a business to supply products that are not dangerous and to take responsibility for any wrong doings on your part" he told me to return the car if I don't want it. Next I call turo and explain the situation. The lady tells me yeah that's wrong he will have to supply you with a new car. Couple hours later the women says "he said return the car". Sorry for the lengthy story, I will try to wrap it up now. Basically, what happened was turo did nothing to hold this guy to their supposed guidelines and I ended up having to not only deal with driving back to the place I was staying but having to pay to extend my trip another day so that I could have someone help get the car back to the agency. Long story short, dirty cars on the verge of breaking down and bad costumer service.
