Description

See bottom for a $25 off coupon code if this is your first time on Turo! Welcome to Roland's FiatFabulous! I give just about the most generous mileage allowance among all the 124 Spiders so you can enjoy the hell out of this car! After all, this is the ultimate roadster for exploring L.A. and for roadtrips up and down the 101 or Rte. 1, out to Palm Springs or to San Diego or to the Paso Robles wine region. Unlike a Mazda Miata, this car has panache!! Like new (under 15k miles), this car is beautiful and tight. It's a blast to drive and it looks great, with styling reminiscent of the last generation of 124 Spiders that last sold in the U.S. in 1985. While it shares its chassis and much of its interior with the fourth-generation Mazda Miata, its engine and transmission, as well as styling, are purely Italian. The 6-speed manual transmission is easy to shift. The 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is spirited, its 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque getting you to 60mph in 6.5 seconds. This car is not the fastest, but it handles great. In the practicality department, the manual top with glass window is super-easy to operate. There’s just one latch and you can put it down with one hand while sitting in the driver’s seat. The trunk is small. You can fit one carry-on bag and one medium-sized duffel, that’s it. Storage in the passenger compartment is very scarce. This is strictly a 2-seater. If you are coming from overseas and toting lots of bags but still want to take this for a road trip, don't fret! You are welcome to stow your excess bags at my storage unit down the street for no charge if that works with your itinerary! Japanese mechanicals but Italian engine and styling, this car will get you where you want to go in style and have a blast while doing so! Located just down the street from L.A. Union Station in downtown LA. Other features: -remote lock/unlock for the most convenient pick-up and drop-off -Generous mileage allowance -6-speed MANUAL transmission -Bluetooth, USB, AUX input, 12V input -turbo 4-cylinder averages 35mpg -LED taillights -alloy wheels -push-button start -leather steering wheel and shift knob FREE PICKUP/DROPOFF TO L.A. UNION STATION & L.A. GREYHOUND/BUS TERMINAL (7TH ST)! Just select pickup at my location so Turo doesn't charge you and then we will coordinate over the app. Pickup/dropoffs at LAX: If you wish to save some #, you can take the FlyAway bus ($9.75 each way) to L.A. Union Station, and then I can pick you up from there for FREE. It was not too long ago that I booked my first car on Turo. It was a great experience. On Turo, you really can rent a great car (usually better than in any rental fleet) for half the price. That's why I'm making my own car available to you now, too. Why should you hire one of my cars? 1. Great cars in great condition 2. Personal attention--I am not a rental car company--I am just a guy who loves cars! 3. Relatively generous mileage allowance 4. I don't expect you to wash the cars! Seriously, almost everyone else does, Why?! I will strive to provide you with the same value and service that I was provided on my first Turo rental. If this is your first time, just let me know and I'll put you at ease as best I can. Regardless of which car you choose, Safe Travels! ===================================== If this is your first time on Turo, you can save $25 (and get me $25 for my own Turo rentals!) by copying and pasting the following link: https://turo.com/c/rolandf33 =====================================

Parking details

To return, just find a legal spot in the general vicinity of where you picked up--there is plenty of FREE street parking. DO NOT park in the surface lot at the One Santa Fe apartments. Don't lock the door manually--send me a message so I can lock it remotely if we are doing a remote handoff. Don't forget to top-up the fuel. The cheapest gas station in DTLA is less than .5 mile away. Valero at 500 S. Alameda St. If we are doing a remote handoff, it's again a good idea to take pictures of the car before you walk away.

Guidelines

Please be courteous--leave the car in the same condition it started in, don't abuse it, and we'll be happy! I'd love to be pet-friendly but this just isn't the car for them. There is literally no room for a third living being anywhere in the cockpit. The car will always be cleaned inside and recently washed. However, because the car may have been sitting outside for a couple days prior to your rental, it could be somewhat dusty (L.A. air is not the cleanest!). See my FAQs for add'l information. Driving Tips I want to share some helpful tips for driving a manual transmission car so that you can drive as safely and efficiently as I do: 1. Always park the vehicle in gear, preferably 1st. Only engage the parking brake if on a grade 2. Always use 1st gear when starting from a stop 3. Engaging the clutch (letting out the clutch pedal) should always be done in a smooth manner, in concert with an increase in throttle pressure. Never “pop”, “drop” or “dump” the clutch [suddenly release it]. 4. Generally upshift between 2,000 and 3,500 RPMs (ideal shift point varies by car) 5. Downshifting is OK but should not be used as a routine method of slowing the vehicle. Avoid downshifting through multiple gears (say, from 5th to 3rd) 6. Shift the car to neutral when stopped for extended periods, like at a stoplight 7. Don’t lug the engine, or accelerate when the gear is too high/engine speed is too low. Generally, the car is safe to accelerate as long as the engine is above 1,500 RPMs. 8. Avoid unnecessary use of the clutch pedal. More pedal action means more wear-and-tear. 9. DO NOT rest your foot on the clutch pedal. 10. DO NOT rest your hand on the gear shift knob Slow acceleration, smooth shifts, and keeping RPMs as low as possible are the ingredients to efficient and long-lasting driving!

Faqs

  • Do I need to vacuum the car when I'm done?
Of course not! You drive, I clean. Even after long trips, leave it to me to freshen the car back up. The only situation where you should clean is if the soil is excessive--food droppings everywhere, tough stains, sand like you left the windows open at the beach, cat hair attached to every fiber of the headboard....Don't risk a cleaning fee in situations like these.
  • Do I need to wash the car when I'm done?
Of course not! You drive, I wash. Even after long trips, leave it to me to freshen the car back up. Now, if you took a mud bath or drove through an aviary, those would be situations where it might be a good idea to give it a quick rinse before that soil bakes onto the paint... The car will always be cleaned inside and recently washed. However, because the car may have been sitting outside for a couple days prior to your rental, it could be somewhat dusty (L.A. air is not the cleanest!).
  • How do I pick up and drop off the car?
This is a frictionless process. Just message me when you're ready for pick-up and I will unlock it remotely. The keys will be in the driver's side visor. When you are ready to drop-off, just find a legal spot in the general vicinity of where you picked up--there is lots of FREE street parking to choose from. Return the key where you found it,. Don't lock the door manually--instead, send me a message so I can lock it remotely. If you want FREE pickup/dropoff at L.A. Union Station, just choose pickup at my location so Turo won't charge you. Then we will coordinate through the app. In most cases I will be there to personally hand off the car. In rare cases, the vehicle will be in a parking lot across the street from the station.
  • Do I need to re-fill the gas tank? What octane?
Mid-grade or premium gas only, please! Please leave gas receipts in the car so I can verify you gassed up with the proper grade. Just return the car with the same amount of gas it started with. Usually, that will be completely full. Here's Turo's policy: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990730-Fuel-policy
  • I've got a lot of bags, and there's no way they can fit, but I really want to make this happen! What can I do?
A road trip up the California coast is something on many tourists' lists. But what do you do with all the weeks' worth of stuff you got with you? I got you covered! Just down the street from me I have a storage unit, and I'm happy to stow your excess bags while you take FiatFabulous on a road trip. Just have your bags sorted when you come to pick up, and I'll handle the logistics after that and have them with me when you drop off the car.
  • Do I need to document the condition of the car?
If I do an in-person handoff, this is not necessary. We will document the condition on a form, as well as the odometer and fuel readings. You are certainly welcome to take pictures, too, to reflect the actual condition of the vehicle on hand-off. If I do a remote handoff, which is the norm and certainly the most convenient option for both of us, I do recommend that you take pictures and note the mileage and fuel level before setting off. Do the same when returning. Take photos of each side of the car, the interior, and closeups of any obvious damage you see. Upload all these pictures to the Trip Photos section of your reservation. Usually, I will have done the same before the start of the trip, too. Here's Turo's FAQ on remote handoffs: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001847367-How-do-remote-key-handoffs-work-for-guests-
  • What happens if I damage the car?
I understand that things happen. Any time you experience difficulty during your rental, contact me promptly. In most cases, if you have incurred damage beyond normal wear-and-tear, it will be easier and cheaper for us to resolve the issue together and not involve insurance or Turo. Turo supports hosts & guests working things out together. Read more about this here: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/207963877-How-can-owners-and-guests-work-together-to-resolve-a-claim-
  • Can I use FasTrak toll lanes?
FasTrak is an automated toll program in SoCal where you can use the special toll lanes for the designated fee (see electronic signs at time of use). You are responsible for the actual fees of the tolls incurred during your rental. You can pay them online after the fact (recommended) or if not, I will ask for a reimbursement later--no surcharges will be added. I can provide a copy of the statement for your review if desired.

Roland was an awesome renter! Super communicative and accommodating. The car was in great condition and an amazingly fun drive. I would rent from him again in a heartbeat. Thanks for making this vacation extra fun!

Perfect rental experience. The beautiful 124 Spider was fantastic, especially with a man ya transmission. Roland was incredibly helpful and responsive every step of the way.
