2016 Chrysler 200PICK UP AND DROP OFF FROM LAX AND LOS ANGELES - UNLIMITED154.510
First off I want to say this is my first time using Turo and have only been in a rental car situation a handful of other times.
Problem #1: We set a pickup time at the airport for 8pm. I communicated to the owner via text that we were on time and he asked what terminal we were near. It took roughly 20-30 minutes after 8pm for this person to pick us up. Not a big deal however, I was under the impression I paid the extra money for a pickup at 8pm.
Problem #2: Once this person arrived at our gate we put our luggage in the trunk and he requested to take us to another location. I was also under the impression that I would be handed a key and be able to take off from there. This normally wouldn't be a big issue but the driver did not speak English very well and was difficult to understand. After asking several questions I learned he was not the owner of the vehicle and was just working for him, he was late because he just took the car to get "washed", and we were going to some parking garage nearby where he would turn the car over to us. This wouldn't have made me as uncomfortable if this was thoroughly explained to me before hand but, it was not.
Problem #3: When I initially entered the vehicle it smelled of stale tobacco smoke and marijuana. It states in the rental information that this a pet free and smoke free vehicle. Not to mention the "car wash" he had just left made no sense as dust and insect splatters were still evident on the windshield. I don't care about the car not being washed, just the fact I was lied to for no reason...
Problem #4: When we arrived at the parking garage we pulled up along side another vehicle. At this time, I saw these people exchange a car key or a key card for the garage. This stood out to me as people who were renting these cars out as a business. When the car was turned over to me the gas light was on and the dash was indicating an oil change was required. Not the end of the world just insult to injury at this point.
Overall, the experience could have been worse. The car was convenient and less expensive than using a big rental company's vehicle. I'm just upset about the punctuality, poor communication, uncomfortable feelings going to an unknown location, and feel like I didn't rent an average Joe's car. Just some guy making a business from renting multiple vehicles out through this app.
