Pros: Car was in good condition and gave no trouble on the road.
Cons: As noted by some other Turo reviewers, the car owner was not the friendliest, upon arriving back from our trip (we had spent a good 45-60 minutes cleaning the car of anything and making sure it was as clean as when we first received it), Kalpesh came and started sitting everywhere in the car as though he was looking for something to be found that was dirty. Even when there was nothing that he could point to that was wrong with the car cleanliness-wise or otherwise, he insisted that we must pay a cleaning fee of $24 for the car, not providing any explanation when we asked why. Rather, he simply said I don't know please complain via Turo.
We would have appreciated if the owner had communicated more clearly with us regarding the expectations, etc. for the vehicle (e.g. that there would absolutely be a cleaning fee at the end) - then we would not have spent the hour cleaning, etc. and returning the car to Kalpesh in top condition. Do not be fooled by the low price, and price in an extra $25 (that he does not at all communicate to you ahead of time).
I appreciated him letting me extend my trip, and he was generally kind and communicative. Only negative was that he seemed suspicious and kept asking me weird questions about insurance and double checking pics and it made me feel sort of incompetence l uncomfortable. He said he'd been burned by other cat rental services, so maybe that's why. But it did make me uncomfortable.
The car wasn't clean but it drove nicely and had no problem. The communication was pretty efficient as well. However, when I returned the car, the owner's wife pointed out a small scratch on the back of the car and asked me if I did it. I told her no but she kept on saying things like "maybe you accidentally bumped into something?" I felt very accused and uncomfortable. Eventually, I sent the owner a photo of the back of the car that I took right after I picked up the car which showed the scratch to prove that I didn't do it. I feel like without the photo, I might've had to paid for the damage I didn't even cause.
Kalpesh was more than 30 min late and on top of that, he was suspicious of my ability to drive and kept questioning my age and my driving record which made me feel really uncomfortable. He insisted twice that I'm a student when I said I'm done with school, working and thinking of grad school (which I didn't have to tell him but he seemed to be really interested in my occupation). As I was about to drive away, he stopped me and made me show him my driver license. I was an hour late to my meeting because of all of this. Beside this, communication was good but the car wasn't clean outside and inside. I found a random tennis ball and chip crumbs on the floor and cup holder. Overall, his punctuality and treating me like a kid who isn't old enough to drive or capable of driving really made me not wanting to use Turo again.
We were mistaken on how long it would take to get to KJ and instead of being annoyed he was more than accommodating to work with us. This was my first time using Turo and working with him put me at ease as I had no idea what to expect!
