I rented from Adam for a 2-day trip after my booking on another listing was cancelled the same morning. I was able to book last minute, which was very helpful for my needs, and I liked the car itself with the pre-loaded tunes and cute smiley face. He was also helpful in lending me ice packs since I fell and bruised my arm on the way over. Unfortunately, there were a few issues that caused me to rate it 2 stars. I was unable to get a hold of Adam by phone or message when I initially booked. I called Turo to cancel, as I didn't think it would work out, and I needed to leave by a certain time. They called Adam for me and were able to get a hold of him, so I went over to pick up the car. I rang the doorbell but he didn't answer, so I had to call him again and then he answered once he knew I was coming. I told him the day and time I would return the car, but again when I returned it at that time, he did not answer his phone or the door/doorbell after ringing a few times. I again had to call Turo to have them call him, so it seems he has them saved in his phone. He texted and let me know to leave the key in the mailbox, which I don't remember him instructing me to do initially (I could be wrong). It would have been helpful to check out with him in person to ensure everything was good to go. I can understand slow communication if the host chooses to pre-approve listings, but it is frustrating to not be able to get a hold of the host when it is an instant booking and when it is expected that guests sometimes have a last-minute booking.
There also was an issue with the car. I noticed at the end of the first day that it was driving and steering funny, and the brakes were making a squealing noise at low speeds. The TPMS light came on, which I found out means low tire pressure. I stopped at a gas station to fill the tires with air, and found the front left tire pressure was critically low, around 20 PSI (normal is around 40). This is very dangerous and could have caused a blowout and accident when I was on the freeway. Once I filled all the tires, the squealing noise stopped and the car was driving normally, but the light was still on (I am guessing it needs to be reset). After returning the car, Adam texted and asked how everything was, and I told him about the issue, but he didn't respond or notify me that he would rectify the situation in the future. Yes, I could have notified him sooner of the issue, but given the lack of responsiveness earlier, I wasn't motivated to try to do so when I was running around town and trying to get things done and figured filling the tires myself was a quicker fix. If the car is better maintained and if the responsiveness can improve from this experience, then this would be a good and convenient car to book in the future.
The price was great, and the car worked to get us from place to place. The windshield, however, was filthy when we got to it and there are no high beams, which is mildly confusing. All in all, very convenient.
