How do I charge an electric car?
Teslas can be charged while parked by plugging into a standard household electrical plug with the included charge cable. This is locked onto the car and can only be unlocked by the key holder. This will charge the car at about 4 miles an hour. This enough to add about 50 miles of range overnight. Several hotels in town have destination chargers and can charge your car overnight at 25-30 miles an hour. I recommend two apps to help with charging: EVHotels which is a guide to EV charging at or near Hotels. Also, the ChargePoint app has listings for public level two chargers that charge at about 25 miles an hour. Set up an account with them with a credit card so you can charge the car if there is a fee. Some are free, other may have a small cost to use them. Teslas use a supercharger network for road trips to quickly charge the battery at up to 600 miles an hour. The car has a sophisticated mapping system to direct you to the appropriate charger on your trip. Santa Fe has a supercharger on the southwest side of town at the outlet mall. If you charge at a Supercharger, the fee will post to my account and I will bill that back to you through Turo. You can expect about a $12-$20 charge cost to fill the car up to 80% if near empty. Electric car batteries do not like to be filled over 90%, so please avoid doing that. The charger interface in the car makes it easy to stop the charge at 80 to 90%. Superchargers do have an idle fee which is expensive so you need to not leave the car on the charger once it is complete. You can fill the car with a charge in about 30 to 45 minutes. I can explain more for newbies who need help. It is a pretty easy thing to do.
Is this Tesla CCS compatible? And what the heck is CCS?
This Tesla does have a CCS adapter for charging. CCS stands for “combined charging standard”, used by most other electric vehicles except for Tesla‘s. There is a fairly large Netwerk, Electrify America, and you can use the CCS adapter to charge with Electrify America. There are other networks with the standard and you can also charge on them. You will need your own credit card to do that.

Brand new Model Y. Great car.

Great car! Fun to drive and looks brand new. Carl is very helpful. Do some research on charging stations- we had some trouble finding one that worked. Not a reflection on the car or Carl- just don’t let it frustrate you if you have any trouble. Find a DC station, not AC, and it will charge MUCH faster. Will rent again!
