Description

For your renting pleasure... The original luxury SUV. From heads of state and royalty around the world to your favorite pop singer or athlete this is the vehicle to own. Ever wonder why...? Now is your chance to find out without having to buy one. Experience British opulence throughout the cabin. Leather wood and aluminum surround you at every turn, seats so comfortable, I seriously recommend not trying to drive when tired... sleep will befall you. This one has an upgraded exhaust to break up the serenity of the typical cabin with V8 goodness normally subdued under the hood. A little grumble and groan from the supercharged monster under the hood will invigorate every time you give it a pat with your right foot. Over 500hp at your beckoning call can go to your head especially when it has room for 5 comfortably and all their luggage. These vehicles are offroad master's with automatic terrain adjusting technology. I know it will never be driven over anything tuffer than that pot whole in front of Starbucks, but if the zombie apocalypse happens you could easily plow over mounds of dead zombies to get back to your prison home. Yes, I know you have been planning for the zombie apocalypse. I digress, with tech and safety features aplenty you have industry-leading protection and an amazing Meridian sound system. There is even rear entertainment for younger passengers or those golf buddies that can't stop talking about work. This is the SUV that all the other SUVs want to be. Give yourself the royal treatment, you deserve it... and you know your sensible spouse will never let you buy something with ridiculous maintenance costs like this. Enjoy it for vacation. https://youtu.be/QSv2wQ6Mbpk

I have never given a bad rating and I don’t want to but here we go. Three of us landed at Panama City Airport (ECP) and after 30 minutes waiting for bags headed out to pick up the car. I sent a measage to Michael, asked to switch to phone text or voice becaue my hands were full with two bags and it’s just easier.

Started communicating at 4:15pm…finally found the car at 4:45, three of us followed instructions and fanned out, luggage in tow looking for the car since I couldn’t find it alone. I finally got to speak with him after exchanging messages through the app…I found three other Range Rovers, none were it. At one point I found a black one…sent a message, “does it have handicapped tags?” I didn’t think that was it but who knows? It was the only black one we could find. The reply was, “No.”. “Pictures in the app.” This was after 20 minutes of three of us looking and we aren’t dumb. I’m a business owner, our friend is a RN, we’ve owned two Range Rovers ourselves and the reason I rented it was because I’d just bought my 82yr old dad a Bentley GT, I thought having a “British Invasion” car situation would be fun.

We finally found it, I asked, “Did you back it in?” He replied that he did and the keys were inside. I then learned that I had to take 17 photos of the car for some reason so we pulled it out a bit, took a bunch of photos and to kind of lighten the mood, I included a picture of a retired NBA player who was on our flight, nice guy.

My wife’s first reaction was…”This isn’t a full sized Range Rover, this is like my first one, it’s a Sport model. I told her, “well…it’s where he said it would be and we can’t find another one like it so I guess this is it.” I was irritated because we got a full sized truck specificially to haul 5 people at times. She told me she’d ride in the back back if necessary…we’d make do.

It was really nice…I liked it a lot but it was small…I was trying to figure out how to fit everyone in it. Stopped at the grocery store in Panama City, drove on to Cape San Blas where my parents were waiting for us for dinner. We finally arrived, got unpacked and very tired, were getting ready for bed when I saw that Michael had called me a bunch of times. It was then that I found out that we had another host’s car. I was floored. Apparently I was expected to take it back…an hour and fifteen minutes each way…I’d return about midnight.

The other host had somehow tracked us down, I have no clue how. The other host was quite thoughtful and helpful…agreed to meet me halfway, to keep driving until we met, cutting my time in half.

I’m not going to point fingers but three of us looked for 25 minutes, we finally found the car, took a bunch of pictures and off we went. We had NO idea this was the wrong car. I don’t know what happens on the other end but that’s what happened.

We went about our trip…future renters should know that the truck is LOUD. I wrote to Michael…”My dad thinks something is wrong…it’s really loud.” The response was that he’d done something or another to the exhaust and to “Enjoy the V8 power!” Ok…I’ve got a Ram TRX at home, I don’t need V8 power. I’ve got a GT500…I don’t need the racket/noise from a luxury SUV. It was so annoyingly loud that I downshifted to quiet it down. My wife drove us back to the airport, she even said something about this being loud and annoying.

I don’t know what should have happened but I know that the other host had NOTHING to do with this and HE was the one who solved the problem, HE drove an extra 2hrs to exchange cars and HE was apologetic for the whole fiasco. He is a rock star.

Michael was always friendly, instructions to find the truck could have been better, could have called me and walked me to it before three of us spread out and spent 25 minutes of dragging luggage all over creation, could have sent a better response than “It’s in the pictures on the app.”

I’ve never had a bad experience on Turo. I have no animosity, am not angry with anyone but it sure seems like Michael should have been more helpful. In fact, the friend who is with us…the RN suggested a “2” rating simply because she felt like he was more interested in getting his close out pictures and getting gone than being friendly or helpful. She was annoyed…no offer to help her unload luggage, just business.

Assuming none of the difficult to locate fiasco happened I would not rent this vehicle again. It’s old (we knew that) but it is LOUD and annoyingly so, particularly considering it’s a luxury SUV, not a hot rod/muscle car. I probably would have rated “4” if it wasn’t for the whole parking lot nightmare/switching cars thing.

I do want to thank the other host…I’d rent from him every single time. He has the black Range Rover Sport…it’s a FANTASTIC vehicle and if we didn’t need a larger one I would have wanted to keep it…of course he had it rented but I’ll look for it next time.

I hate to leave this rating but…he sure could have been more helpful, responsive and this could have been avoided.

I’m told that the truck we rented was three spaces away. No idea how three of us missed it but we did. Maybe that’s our problem…I don’t know. I do know that we walked at least half of that lot…maybe more and we spent almost 30 minutes looking, spread out. You’d think one of us would find it and would have had better instructions but clearly something was wrong. Maybe I misunderstood what I read, I read what he wrote to both ladies…my bride and Phillipa (RN friend) and none of us could find it.

I hope he does well going forward…just know you’re getting a loud and older/well used Land Rover. If I’d seen it in person I would have rented something else every single time, particularly considering what we paid. That is WAY too expensive…again…my mistake I guess, all we’ve got to go on is photos and this just wasn’t what I expected.

michael's response

The description of the vehicle on the platform describes the loud exhaust due to the custom exhaust system. I guess you didn't read it. It also has pictures of the vehicle and the tag.
The other host found you because he and I coordinated a solution that worked best for all parties, including me convincing him to meet you with the correct vehicle so you didn't have to drive 2 hours back to the airport, even though the error wasn't his.
