The van I rented from Ricardo broke down and wouldn't start within the first 3 hours of renting it. Then I couldn't get a hold of Ricardo. I messaged him on turo, I texted him, and I tried calling him a couple times and nothing. He finally got back to me midmorning the next day, but he wasn't available so he sent his friend out to help me. Ricardo let me use his personal car while his friend fixed the van I was renting. I left some of my stuff in the van which his friend thought would be ok. But later that day when I was trying to contact both Ricadio and his friend neither one of them would respond and the van wasn't where I had last seen it. It wasn't until after I had talked with turo for a while that his friend finally got back to me. Fixing the van took a day longer then originally thought. And when the van was finally fixed trying to arrange a time and place to trade cars was difficult. The spot changed a couple of times and then Richardo's friend told me to meet him in the cemetery down the street. I saw his car pull into the cemetery as I got their. Instead of stopping to talk he pulled a quick u turn and zipped off down the high way. So I took off after him and followed him back to the house where the van was. He said he didn't have much time to swap cars so he rushed me a little bit. Then the van broke down again the following day. So after a long phone call with turo, the rep with turo suggested and arranged for a tow truck to come pick it up. Then I was stranded for about 3 hours while I waited for my new rental car to be delivered. And if that's not enough, a few days later Ricardo starts sending me messages asking where his van is. I remember having texted both Ricardo and his friend about the van breaking down a second time. While I was on the phone with turo they said they had tried contacting him and couldn't get a hold of him either. I would like a full refund from Ricardo. Between his van leaving me stranded twice and how impossible he is to get a hold of it took a lot of hours out of my vacation. In fact it probably took a whole day's worth of time out of it.

Ricardo was super nice and easy to communicate with. He responded quickly when we needed him. The car was meticulously cleaned when we picked it up and his instructions on pickup were very clear. There were a few things that we were not prepared for that we felt should have been communicated to us. The car took 2-3 times to turn over whenever we tried to start it. This terrified us at the beginning of the trip constantly thinking we were going to get stranded if the car wouldn’t start and we didn’t want to take it far. After speaking with Ricardo it turns out that is a normal thing for the van because a part is required to fix it and it hadn’t arrived yet. We felt this should have been communicated to us in the beginning. Also, we ended up going on a road trip at one point and absolutely could not get the fob to open the doors. We also had an instance where the fob wouldn’t work at all and we were able to open the door only after we found the key. The batteries maybe need to be replaced?Lastly, we ended up extending our trip with Ricardo and gave him a 2.5 hour time frame of when we would leave the car at the airport-which he originally agreed to. Because we couldn’t commit to an exact time until that evening, Ricardo asked that we pay for overnight parking instead. This wasn’t something that was discussed and I didn’t feel the ask was fair. Overall, Ricardo was kind and the car was very clean, but we could see the difference between renting from a car company and Turo.
