It was a very difficult and inconvenient experience from start to end in terms of communication with the host and condition of the vehicle. We arrived to the pickup location at the scheduled time of 9am and were told the car would be unlocked and the keys would be located in the glove box. The car was indeed unlocked, however we spent the next 20 minutes searching the car from front to back for the keys. There were no keys located in the glove box but what I did find in there was a used uncapped shaving razor and a bunch of other junk like a candle and other papers. Looking around the car, we could tell the interior hadn’t been cleaned in a while or at the very least before we booked the trip. There were used masks, receipts, vape pens in the center console and cup holders, the carpet and seats were scattered with crumbs and dirt, shoe scuff marks found pretty much everywhere, and no spare tire in the trunk. We proceeded to call and message the host on the Turo app for help on locating the keys. After waiting 30 minutes and no response from the host we called customer service for additional assistance. They tried to contact the host on their end to no success and determined that we would have to rebook for another vehicle. It took 1 hour on the phone with customer service before the details were worked out and we were about to leave when the host finally messaged us back on the Turo app. The host apologized, saying that they had just seen the booking at that moment and that they would have to get the keys to us, which would take approximately 5-10 minutes. They quickly changed the plans and asked if we could pick up the keys at their place (within a 5 minute walk) since they were not home. I told the host that I did not feel comfortable because I did not know this area. The host said his roommate was home and could hand us the keys but they were currently busy in a meeting. They finally decided that his roommate could walk the keys over but it would take an additional 5-10 minutes. The roommate showed up with the keys and apologized telling me that he was drinking alcohol and that he is actually still drunk right now. I had no idea how to respond to that but kept thinking why would they feel the need to lie and say the roommate was in a meeting. After waiting over an hour and a half, we were finally able to leave the public parking lot. We turned the car on to find out the tank is just under half filled and the right sided windshield wipers were broken and would leave a huge streak on the glass making it almost impossible to see through when it rained or was wet. The rest of the trip went fine and we had no other issues while driving the car around. However, we ran into more communication issues when trying to return the car. The host had been in contact the day prior through the Turo app messages to confirm when we were dropping the car off. We had a change in our flight time and decided that 6am would work and agreed upon this time with the host. They told us to feel free to text if anything changes and to just give a 5 minute heads up before we arrived. We ended up getting stuck in traffic and told the host we would be arriving a bit later closer to 7am. We assumed the host would want to meet us up at the car before we parted ways which is why they wanted a heads up before we were coming. When we dropped the car at the location, we called and messaged on the app with no response and proceeded to leave the keys in the glove box and head to the airport. We finally received a response 2 hours later through the app. In conclusion, the car was not in a clean and ready condition to be lent out to guests and most of our communication with the host led to many headaches and a lot of time waiting around.
