Guidelines

*ID Verification* Turo requires hosts to verify ID of all renters on every trip. If it’s an in-person pickup, ID must be verified by myself personally. If it’s a remote-entry pickup, a photo of your face next to your ID, as well as a closeup photo of your ID must be uploaded before the car can be released. With Turo’s new contactless handoffs the following items are mandatory before picking up the car: 1. Please upload a photo of your drivers license to trip photos 2. Please upload a photo of yourself holding your license in front of the car. You can upload these photos by going to your reservation page scrolling down and where it says “add photos” tap there to upload. *Charge %* Please charge no higher than 90%. When you charge at a busy supercharger, it may default you to 80%. Please feel free to move it to 90%. Charging Tesla batteries higher than 90% can degrade the battery longevity and total range, so please do not charge higher than 90%. *Return Charge Level Guidelines* As with a gas car, please return the car at the fuel level you started with. Please return the car charged to 85% to 90%. Usually this is most easily achieved by charging at Target Mira Mesa, Qualcomm, or Vons Carmel Mountain Rd. You should see ~200 miles at 90%, and it will drop into the high 190’s at drop off. Returning the car without charging it to 85%-90% near the car’s home address (within 15 miles) will incur a pro-rated charging fee of up to $60 for <60 miles remaining, $45 for 60-120 miles remaining, and $30 for 121-180 miles remaining. *Starting Charge Level* Generally speaking, the car will be provided at 90% full, which is typically 201-204 miles on the dash depending on how the car is driven. If delivery is selected, the car may not be delivered with full miles because we will be using some miles to get to you. 20+ superchargers around San Diego County make it easy to top off to 85%-90% as needed. *See FAQ’s For Other Rental Guidelines*

Faqs

  • What happens if I lose the key fob?

The Lost Key Fob Replacement Fee is $250. They key must be ordered from Tesla Service, then reprogrammed. It can take a week. The fob in the car will have a Tile tracker on it. The Tile will not be activated unless a renter asks for the Tile to be activated, in which case I will send a signal to the Tile and it will start making sounds the next time a Tile enabled mobile device is nearby. As all Teslas are GPS connected at all times, The Tile for the key is less about encroaching on privacy and more about helping people find their lost key fob and hopefully save them some time and money. If you would like to leave the Tile in the car, that is fine, but GPS cannot be disabled. Tesla knows where all our cars are at all times.

  • Is there a maximum speed setting on the car? Are you going to lock me into chill mode, or is standard driving mode permitted?

No, the car does not have a maximum speed setting. (Kind of tacky for other cars to have it, right?). You may run the car in Chill or Standard mode, which is higher performance. Please observe all local traffic laws and ordinances. California Highway Patrol comes in the form of white unmarked Ford Explorers and Dodge Chargers, as well as marked Ford Explorers and Dodge Chargers. There may also be the odd Ford Crown Victoria. ALL Sheriff, CHP, and Police Officers in San Diego County are permitted to make citations anywhere in the state of California including on any highway or surface street. If you get a ticket, you'll likely make your appearance at the Superior Court on Clairemont Mesa Blvd in City of San Diego.

  • Am I responsible for damage to wheels, tires, and the paint protection film on the car?

Damage to rims and the paint protection film are not covered by Turo's Insurance, ensure your personal insurance covers these items as damage and repair to these items is charged to renter. If any damages are caused to the car, the renter will contact their insurance to cover. You must carry enough two-way insurance coverage to cover any damages to this car in addition to liability coverage wherever you are driving.

  • Can I drive out of San Diego County? What about Canada? Mexico?

Please do not leave the country i.e. Canada or Mexico. Insurance does not protect the vehicle across borders. $1000 fine. You may leave San Diego County if you are able to return within the average mile per day driving limit. Exceeded miles will be charged to the renter.

  • These toll lanes/carpool lanes are tricky. Do I have to pay the tolls?

Generally best to avoid I-15 express lanes and CA-125 express lanes as these have tolls. We have a transponder for Orange County Toll Roads, set to 3+ carpool. Any charges will be charged to renter. Please alert us immediately to any express lane usage with date/time so we can pay the toll on time and not incur a violation. In San Diego and Orange County, you will need to pay tolls if you use express lanes. All tolls and violation costs will be passed on to the renter, with a minimum $75 admin/violation fee + costs.

  • Can I bring an animal?

No, you may not bring animals in the car. It is not fair to anybody to leave animal hair/smells in the car for the next renter. Any evidence of pets in the car will incur a $250 fee.

  • I'd really like to test the limits of the car by disabling traction control and participating in speed contests. Can I?

That's a no. Please do not disable traction control, do burnouts, try to drift, or race the car for your own safety. Excessive tire wear will be measured by tire depth and charged up to $250+/tire. Participating in speed contests is not only illegal and may get the car impounded at your cost +loss of use fees, you yourself may be impounded overnight at county jail. San Diego law states participation or spectating of speed contests is punishable by one night in jail, impoundment, and other fines.

  • What if I get a flat or need a tow?

Potholes unfortunately can happen to the best of us. Renters are responsible for tire repair/replacement/tows that are required during their trip. Free flat repairs may be accessed from Discount Tire/America's Tire Company. If a nail is in the shoulder block or sidewall, the tire will not be salvageable, and may be charged up to $200+/tire. If you get a flat and no longer have air pressure, do not drive on the flat tire- it will destroy the sidewall. Get a tow to the nearest Discount Tire. If the tire is destroyed renter will need to purchase a matching tire replacement. Do not mix tire types/brands/sizes as this is dangerous. If you need towing, this must be done by a SPECIFIC Tesla-approved tow service. The car can be easily damaged by inexperienced operators. Please do NOT utilize any random towing service. Please contact us or the Tesla roadside assistance for needs. You will be directed to Pacific Autow (858) 457-1312 https://www.pacificautowcenter.com/ is the only tow partner certified by Tesla of San Diego, so please use them and request a flat bed. Using a standard tow truck can damage the transmission of AWD cars such as this 75D. You will not be permitted by the tow company to ride on the flatbed, the average tow truck can seat two extra passengers, other passengers will need to find alternative transport. Renter is responsible for paying for their own tow and secondary transport.

  • Where can I see Turo policies?

Cleaning Policy: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000808347-Cleaning-policy Prohibited uses: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990570-Prohibited-uses Smoking Policy: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990550-Smoking-policy Additional user policy: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990710-Additional-usage-policy Pet Policy: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990560-Pet-policy How to request extension or shorten: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043107954-Extending-or-shortening-your-trip- Adding an additional driver: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990880-Adding-a-driver-to-a-trip

  • Will I get charged for leaving a car past when the car is done charging?

Yes, you'll be charged for idle fees that are charged to the car. Charging Idle Fees are charged by Tesla Corporate. Cars must be disconnected within 5 minutes of charging completion or incur up to $1/minute idle fee, charged by Tesla corporate and passed onto renters. Teslas can also be charged at destination chargers at shopping centers/Marriott/boutique Hotels. Typically without a fine for overstaying the charge. Please don't part in a marked EV spot if you won't be charging, it's kinda mean to somebody else who might need it.

  • Do I need to bring the car back washed and vacuumed?

The vehicle has a free membership to Soapy Joe's Car Washes in San Diego County with 24+locations if you want to get the car washed, washed, and self-vacuumed during a trip. Turo Cleaning Fees of $150 + 3% processing will apply if the car comes back soiled/stained/muddy/hairy etc. If a car wash and a 5 minute vacuum will return the car to as you found it status, there will not be a cleaning fee charged.

  • I took out the non-weight-bearing parcel shelf and it got lost. What do I do?

Please do not remove any parcel shelf/mats/car charger/charging adapters/accessories. Replacement Fee for each of the items will be $200+ each.

  • Can I smoke/vape/drink alcohol in the car? Even while I'm parked?

Absolutely not. Please do not ever operate the vehicle under the influence. The allowable alcohol blood content in California to drive is zero percent. Same with other drugs. Smoking, vaping, drinking, doing drugs is against Turo guidelines and will result in removal from the platform. Any lingering smells will incur a $350 fee.

  • Can I drive the car to zero miles? When should I charge? What % should I charge the battery to? How long does it take to charge?

There are only 3 literal miles reserve at 0 miles, be aware of less range available with elevation or extreme cold weather changes. 1-1.25 hours charging should get you near 90% charge. Please do not charge higher than 90% max as charging to 100% is harsh on the battery, takes exponentially longer to charge, and shrinks the battery capacity. You will not want to wait the 2.5 hours it'll take to charge to 100%. Actual driving patterns may affect range estimates, so please keep an eye on the range indicator. Even the most lead-footed driver should be able to get 150-175 real world miles at 90%)
