I’ve rented via Turo several times, and mostly Tesla vehicles. This is the first time I’ve felt like I had to give less than five stars. I’ll list the reasons why below, but I first want to say that my goal here is both to inform other renters about the current state of this car and to encourage the host/owner to improve the situation. Everything here is fixable.

First, a few notes on the experience.
- Upon our arrival in Orlando, I received a message indicating that the car wasn’t quite ready and was being charged. This was okay because our flight arrived a bit late, and because of how long it takes to get to the pickup spot. But if we’d been on time and in a hurry, that might’ve been a problem
- I was told via another message that the car would have a little over 50% charge when we picked it up, which is unusual and disappointing, as usually when I pick up a rental it is at 80% or 90% if not higher.
- Finding the shuttle pickup spot wasn’t too hard, but it was unclear if we were in the right place as none of the signs mention the company name we were given
- It took about a half hour for the shuttle to arrive, and then another ten minutes or so to get to the parking lot (which is a ways from the airport, and in the wrong direction for us). This isn’t the end of the world, but it did take a lot longer than the listing suggests. Allow extra time in your planning.

The car:
- The driver’s side has extensive damage, including a bunch of large scratches and dents, and a sizable hole in the lower rocker panel. It was clearly in an accident.
- The driver’s mirror appears to have been badly repaired by using a passenger side mirror installed upside down, so the text about objects in the mirror is upside down. The mirror cannot be adjusted properly because of this. The best I could do was make it so that only half of the mirror view was filled with the side of the car, meaning only half of the it was useful. Because it’s intended as a passenger side mirror and upside down (and I’m not 100% sure it’s even from a Model 3), the curvature of the surface is wrong and it makes the view distorted. This was headache-inducing and often messed with my perception of vehicles visible in it. This is the most urgent thing in need of proper repair.
- The steering wheel leather is ripped at the top, and has a sticky residue that’s quite unpleasant if you touch it while steering
- The car is missing the aerodynamic wheel caps on the front wheels, which looks weird and hurts highway range a bit
- Someone clearly smoked in the car and it wasn’t cleaned sufficiently. I know this sucks for the owner that someone did it, but if you’re going to keep renting this you need to charge that person for the cleaning and get it properly cleaned by a service that knows how to remove the smoke smell
- There’s some other cosmetic damage on the car’s exterior, but not as bad as the left rear quarter area and the mirror
- Otherwise, the car itself worked and got us around. It just was a disappointing experience for what I expected to be a premium rental

Other issues:
- The owner did not provide a key for the car. They said that people were stealing them, so they only rely on the Tesla app and phone key. I like that they support using my Tesla account and phone key, but it is a bad idea to rent a car out without the card key or fob. If your phone battery dies, you can’t get in. If your phone is stolen or damaged or stops working, you could be stranded. You also can’t valet the car because you have no key to give the valet driver.
- The owner did not provide the mobile charger connector OR the J1772 charging adapter, which means you can only charge at Tesla superchargers or destination chargers. I had planned to charge off of a 110V outlet while parked which is more convenient and lower cost than using a supercharger, and there were opportunities where I could have had free charging at places we went for the day or for dinner if I’d had the J1772 adapter (which comes with the car and should always be kept in it). Again, the owner said people kept stealing it so that’s why he doesn’t provide these things unless specially requested and for an extra charge. This is not a satisfying answer, especially because it’s not mentioned in the listing and we didn’t figure out these things were missing until after we had the car. I think it may also violate Turo’s policies as the app specifically said there should be a charging cable in the car at checkin.

The mirror and the smell are the most egregious issues, and the lack of key + J1772 adapter are the next biggest issues for me. At the very least, those should be spelled out in the listing.

Perhaps their other rental cars are in better condition and I really hope that they fix this one up soon. I have no ill feelings toward the host, but I can’t say this was a great rental experience. While it certainly could have been worse, it was quite disappointing.

The vehicle clearly states that it does not come with the charger, & we sent you access to the vehicle immediately after your booking.

The car was extremely clean, & this is no exaggeration. We pay a detailing company between EVERY booking. This review is so lengthy and appalling to us because nobody out of dozens of trips in this vehicle have ever said anything like this.
