Faqs

  • How do I charge?

You can charge at Tesla super charging stations. It will cost 20 cents per kWh and I will charge you for that cost at the end of your trip via the Turo app. Tesla superchargers are the fastest way to charge (45 minutes for an 80% charge). Idle fees apply if you leave the car at the supercharging station after it has finished charging. You can also use other charging networks (such as ChargePoint) but they are a lot slow and more expensive. You can also charge from home or your hotel. I will also provide charging cables and adapters so you can have the car charged at your hotel or home. You can find the nearest Tesla supercharger directly on the center console screen, or it will automatically choose appropriate superchargers on your guided navigation route. You can find non-Tesla chargers by using the plug share app on your phone, or the “A better route planner” app. You will have to pay for non-Tesla chargers at the charging location.

  • Should I charge the vehicle to 100%?

You only need to charge the vehicle enough to get you to your next charge location, plus a little extra for buffer. You can charge to 100% if you need to, but it’s best to charge to no more than 80% if it is not necessary. Charging only enough to get to the next charger will save you time charging, (like all rechargeable electric devices) as it approaches 100% it takes longer.

  • Do I have to return the car fully charged?

No, but please don't return it at 0%. You might run out of battery. Make sure you use Tesla GPS as it will reroute you to the nearest charging station if you're cutting it too close. There will be an additional charge if you return the car with less than 50% battery ($20). I will not charge you to recharge if has > 50% charge

  • Will you deliver the car fully charged?

If you pick the vehicle up from my home the car will be charged to 80%, which I consider to be fully charged for normal use. Charging beyond 100% can reduce the longevity of the batteries. It will be quasi fully charged (80%) if I drop it off at your location. The range of this Model S is 320-395 miles, depending on weather, roads (elevation) and driving style, and whether you charge to 80% or 100%.

What a great car! Eric was a very helpful host, having never driven an electric vehicle before this he spent a good 20 minutes going over all the unique things needed to know about operating an EV. In addition I made a change to the settings that I could not figure out how to undo. Called Eric and he answered on the second ring, I explained what I had done and he was able to reset the vehicle remotely. The Autopilot feature alone is worth the cost of the rental. If you choose this vehicle and host you will not be disappointed.
