Description

****1994, NOT 1995**** FOR LAX DELIVERY STARTING 8/23/20, SEE BOTTOM FOR CRITICAL INFO This modern classic is a beautiful example of pure Italian artistry and engineering. While it’s fun just to look at it, it also offers dependability and reliability in an exotic vehicle. Just 1,090 examples of the 348 Spider were produced from 1993-95, replacing the Mondial Cabriolet, and just 550 were imported by the factory to the U.S. ***This is a 5-speed, manual transmission, 3-pedal car. If you are not an expert in driving a manual transmission car, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT rent it*** The car’s exterior is finished in what is one of the most popular and striking color combinations: classic “Fly yellow.” On this vehicle, with all of its dark grilles, strakes and louvers, the bright color contrasts beautifully. This car does not scream “Look at me!” like modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis in wild colors; instead, it’s a color that tells you the car is less serious than a red one and it’s all about having fun! Everything on this car works. All factory services are up-to-date. This car is in reliable mechanical condition and you can expect a top level of performance from it. There are no leaks, the engine fires right up, idles smoothly and has that wonderful Ferrari sound. The suspension is nice and tight with no odd noises, vibrations, or alignment problems when driving. The car is original with no significant modifications. Driving this car is a pure joy. The 348 lacks the electronic gadgetry that is so prevalent in newer cars allowing the driver to fully enjoy the classic Ferrari driving experience. The throaty exhaust isn't overpowering, just pleasant and "there." You can still carry on a casual conversation with your passenger, even at high speed. The clutch is light and delightfully precise. 348s do not have power steering. While the steering feel of this car is praised car experts, at low or no speed it is difficult to turn the wheel. The 348's convertible top is all manual and comes with clear written and illustrated instructions. The convertible top's boot cover snaps into place with very little effort and gives your car a clean top-down appearance that is well worth the few seconds required to install. The 348 has narrow seats. If you have larger than a size 36-inch waist, you may have trouble fitting into the bolstered seats. The car should be comfortable for anyone up to about 6’4” tall. It’s a rear-engined car and strictly a 2-seater. There is a rather generous trunk up front. It measures 25” wide and 26” deep, 13” high at the front and 21” high at the rear. So you can easily fit one overstuffed carry-on bag along with an overnight bag or duffle. If you are coming from out-town and toting lots of bags but still want to take this for a road trip, don't fret! You are welcome to stow your excess bags with me for no charge if that works with your itinerary! I will provide you with a reference card showing you some operating tips and tricks and will make myself available before the trip to do a quick check-drive so you are comfortable driving it. . While this car is well-maintained and in excellent condition, it is still over 25 years old. I ask that you drive this car reasonably and do not abuse it. No racetracks, popping clutches, power shifts, or multi-gear downshifts, please. Do not cross the redline. If there is evidence of excess tire wear due to overly-hard driving, you are liable to extra charges. This vehicle has ABS but no airbags and no electronic stability aids. It requires more effort and attention than modern supercars. Treat it with respect and do not be overconfident in your abilities. Notable features: -Tubi exhaust -air conditioning -power locks and windows -AM/FM CD player Specifications: Engine: DOHC, 32 Valve V8, 3405 cc Power: 312 bhp (224 kW) @ 7500 rpm Suspension: Independent all round 0-100 km/h (62 mph): 5.3 sec. 0-161 km/h (100 mph): 11.5 sec. 1/4 mile: 13.8 sec. Top Speed: 171 mph Skidpad: .935g THIS VEHICLE IS SANITIZED BEFORE EVERY TRIP ****LAX PICKUP/DELIVERY INFO**** Starting 8/23/20, a court injunction prohibits vehicle deliveries to/from LAX. If you need delivery to LAX, follow these instructions. Select delivery to "Guest's Location" and type in "5932 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles 90045." Fee should be $40, which is my normal LAX delivery fee. Upon arrival, go to the nearest pink "LAX Shuttles" pickup on the arrivals level. Take the FREE "G-Metro Green Line" bus. Get off at the 1st stop (Remote Rental Car Depot) at the corner of Century Blvd & Airport Blvd. It’s only a 3-minute ride from Terminal 7. I will meet you there. Car will be parked there, next to the United Air Cargo building. To drop off there are two choices: either we meet at the same place to end the trip and I’ll drop you off curbside, OR you can drop off the car (without meeting me) in a residential area near LAX which is a 5-minute, $6 Lyft ride to LAX. Apologize for the inconvenience during this time. I promise to make this workaround as easy as possible. Thanks for your understanding. If you are not sure about all of this, you can always book the trip and then you can change the location with no penalty at any time. See https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044906153-Airport-delivery-restrictions for an explanation of the current situation at LAX. It was not too long ago that I booked my first car on Turo. It was a great experience. On Turo, you really can rent a great car (usually better than in any rental fleet) for half the price. That's why I'm making my own car available to you now, too. Why should you hire one of my cars? 1. Great cars in great condition 2. Personal attention--I am not a rental car company--I am just a guy who loves cars! 3. Relatively generous mileage allowance 4. I don't expect you to wash the cars! Seriously, almost everyone else does! I will strive to provide you with the same value and service that I was provided on my first Turo rental. If this is your first time, just let me know and I'll put you at ease as best I can. Regardless of which car you choose, Safe Travels!

Guidelines

Please be courteous--leave the car in the same condition it started in, don't abuse it, and we'll be happy! I'd love to be pet-friendly but this just isn't the car for them. There is literally no room for a third living being anywhere in the cockpit. The car will always be cleaned inside and recently washed. See my FAQs for add'l information. Driving Tips I want to share some helpful tips for driving a manual transmission car so that you can drive as safely and efficiently as I do: 1. Always park the vehicle in gear, preferably 1st. Only engage the parking brake if on a grade 2. Always use 1st gear when starting from a stop 3. Engaging the clutch (letting out the clutch pedal) should always be done in a smooth manner, in concert with an increase in throttle pressure. Never “pop”, “drop” or “dump” the clutch [suddenly release it]. 4. Generally upshift between 2,000 and 3,500 RPMs (ideal shift point varies by car) 5. Downshifting is OK but should not be used as a routine method of slowing the vehicle. Avoid downshifting through multiple gears (say, from 5th to 3rd) 6. Shift the car to neutral when stopped for extended periods, like at a stoplight 7. Don’t lug the engine, or accelerate when the gear is too high/engine speed is too low. Generally, the car is safe to accelerate as long as the engine is above 1,500 RPMs. 8. Avoid unnecessary use of the clutch pedal. More pedal action means more wear-and-tear. 9. DO NOT rest your foot on the clutch pedal. 10. DO NOT rest your hand on the gear shift knob Slow acceleration, smooth shifts, and keeping RPMs as low as possible are the ingredients to efficient and long-lasting driving!

Faqs

  • Do I need to document the condition of the car?

You are highly encouraged to take pictures and upload them to Trip Photos, whether we do an in-person or remote handoff. Here's Turo's FAQ on remote handoffs: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001847367-How-do-remote-key-handoffs-work-for-guests-

  • I've got a lot of bags, and there's no way they can fit, but I really want to make this happen! What can I do?

A road trip up the California coast is something on many tourists' lists. But what do you do with all the weeks' worth of stuff you got with you? I got you covered! Just down the street from me I have a storage unit, and I'm happy to stow your excess bags while you take L.Abarth on a road trip. Just have your bags sorted when you come to pick up, and I'll handle the logistics after that and have them with me when you drop off the car.

  • Do I need to re-fill the gas tank? What octane?

Premium gas only, please! Bonus points for ethanol-free gas (download Pure Gas app). Please leave gas receipts in the car so I can verify you gassed up with the proper grade. Just return the car with the same amount of gas it started with. Usually, that will be completely full. Here's Turo's policy: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990730-Fuel-policy

  • Do I need to wash the car when I'm done?

Of course not! You drive, I wash. Even after long trips, leave it to me to freshen the car back up. Now, if you took a mud bath or drove through an aviary, those would be situations where it might be a good idea to give it a quick rinse before that soil bakes onto the paint...

  • How do I pick up and drop off the car?

Most pickups and dropoffs will be in person. I will ensure you are comfortable with the operation of the vehicle. Be sure to read the pickup & dropoff instructions for more detail on uploading a picture of your driver's license and photos of the car to document the existing condition.

  • Can I use the FasTrak toll lanes?

FasTrak is an automated toll program in SoCal where you can use the special toll lanes for the designated fee (see electronic signs at time of use). You are responsible for the actual fees of the tolls incurred during your rental. You can pay them online after the fact (recommended) or if not, I will ask for a reimbursement later--no surcharges will be added. I can provide a copy of the statement for your review if desired.

  • What happens if I damage the car?

I understand that things happen. Any time you experience difficulty during your rental, contact me promptly. In most cases, if you have incurred damage beyond normal wear-and-tear, it will be easier and cheaper for us to resolve the issue together and not involve Turo. Turo supports hosts & guests working things out together. Read more about this here: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/207963877-How-can-owners-and-guests-work-together-to-resolve-a-claim-

  • Do I need to vacuum the car when I'm done?

Of course not! You drive, I clean. Even after long trips, leave it to me to freshen the car back up. The only situation where you should clean is if the soil is excessive--food droppings everywhere, tough stains, sand like you left the windows open at the beach, cat hair attached to every fiber of the headboard....Don't risk a cleaning fee in situations like these.
