Faqs

  • What are the biggest differences from driving a normal (non electric) car?

    1) Instant torque! This is part of what makes the car so fun but it can also be alarming for unsuspecting drivers! The car will move instantly when you depress the pedal, so depress slowly the first time until you're used to it. 2) Single pedal driving. The car accelerates when you depress the pedal, and decelerates quite noticeably if you release the pedal completely. (Compared to a conventional car, which would coast instead of noticeably decelerate). To slow down, just ease off the pedal, and you will slow down. Majority of the time, you won't even need the breaks (but please do use them when necessary haha). 3) You need to be conscious of charging stations if you are traveling long distances. The navigation system in the car will show you where all the Tesla super charger stations are, as well where other destination chargers are located. Ideally, keep the battery between 10% and 90%.

  • How do I charge the car? How much does it cost?

The three most popular are regular outlet charging, ChargePoint or Blink charging stations and Tesla Supercharger stations. For regular outlet, there is a mobile charger in the car that you can use to just plug into any regular outlet. It will charge at a rate of about 3-4 miles per hour. There is no direct cost, just be sure you have permission to use the outlet :) For ChargePoint or Blink charging stations, there is an adapter in the car that you slot in between the charger and the Tesla's charging port. These typically charge at about 20 miles per hour. You will need to set up an account, but charges are about $0-20 depending on the charger. Downloading the PlugShare app will help you locate all nearby Chargers, including free ones! Tesla Supercharger: 200-400+ miles per hour depending on state of charge of the car at the time. It's fastest when near empty, and much slower filling up after 90% of the charge. The Model Y can charge from 5 to 90 percent in 37 minutes! No adapter is needed, just plug in the car and charge! Average costs in the greater Seattle region are about $0.40 per kilowatt hour, but varies based on location and time of day. Generally, it works out to be about $15-20 for a full charge (50kwh battery capacity). For super charging, the cost is charged to my personal account, which will be billed to you after the trip.

  • How do I get the most range out of the car?

The biggest factors that are within your control are speed and climate control. If you limit your climate control usage it really helps a lot. Accelerating and stopping smoothly also help a lot. Lastly, limiting speed on highways to be be below 70mph will also help to extend your mileage.

  • Why should the battery be kept between 10% and 90%?

It is recommended you keep the battery charge between 10% and 90% to maximize the health of the battery. If you know you need the extra few miles before getting to the next charging station, feel free to charge past 90%. When the battery is above 90%, power regeneration (charging from slowing down is reduced, which decreases efficiency). Try your best to keep the battery about 10%, in order to prevent premature wear on the battery. Also, keep in mind that if you are out of power, there is no way to just "add fuel" into the car. It will have to be towed, which can be costly.

  • What else should I know?

The rims on all Teslas are very susceptible to car rash. Use caution when parking! Curb rash is not going to be covered by insurance and will have to come out of your pocket. This car is fun to drive, and make sure to have fun, but do so responsibly! The car has various camera systems that are not always active but will capture video and audio automatically when it determines there is a "alarming situation".

I’ve rented a few Teslas before but our experience with Jeffrey was definitely a notch above!! He was very friendly, easy pickup and drop off and very understanding and flexible with every question and concern I had. I got to really partake in the ownership experience of having a Tesla and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to rent a Tesla.
