Description

Located less than five miles north of LAX, this all-electric vehicle is ideal for in-town driving and trips to neighboring Southern California counties. Take an in inexpensive ride from the airport and avoid traditional rental pickup lines on your way to Santa Monica, downtown, the valley, Pasadena or other locales. The 2017 Nissan Leaf boasts an 80+ mile range and is quick-charge ready. So if you don’t plug it in overnight, about 20 minutes at the many rapid charge CHAdeMO stations in Southern California returns the vehicle to a full range. Enjoy a cup of coffee and off you go! If you are using a full range in a day on your way to neighboring Ventura/Orange/Riverside counties, I recommend using an app (ChargePoint, PlugShare, EVgo, etc.) to plan out a CHAdeMO quick charge location for these longer trips. This car is not recommended for single day “road trips” several hundred miles away as CHAdeMO rapid chargers are less available along routes San Francisco, San Diego, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, etc. For in-town use, simply plug the car in overnight using the standard three-prong outlet charger that comes with the vehicle at no added charge. It runs the length of a garage. The three prong charger plugs into the orange port pictured in the photos. This clean and zippy all-electric car sports a deep trunk and rear folding seats that make transporting passengers, luggage, and bulky items a breeze. See the competitively priced prepaid recharge offer for quick rentals, those with late night/early morning drop-offs, or if you simply want to save time/hassle before you return the car. Contactless checkin and drop off is always available at no added charge. And see the car FAQ for detailed tips on charging and driving. For last minute bookings, see the final listing photo for the lockbox location on the patio. A code to the lockbox will be sent before your scheduled pickup in the “rental details” part of the booking. There is ample curbside street parking (street sweeping on alternate sides Thursday and Fridays) and lockbox use makes pick up and drop off quick and easy. The vehicle is clean and well maintained. The color is gold/bronze but it looks gray/black in darker light.

US$5/day

Prepaid EV recharge

Save time and drop-off hassle all for about the price of a few gallons of gas. Especially valuable for short term or early morning return rentals! Please return with 5%+ remaining charge.

US$15/trip

Parking details

Ample curbside parking is available within a half block of this address. Please observe Thursday and Friday street sweeping signs.

Guidelines

No smoking/vaping in the car or immediately before getting into the vehicle. Please deliver the car with a 80% remaining charge or higher to avoid a recharge fee. Pet hair/messes will be charged a cleaning fee.

Faqs

  • How do I charge the car?

A standard J1772 three-prong charging cable is located in a case in the trunk and runs the length of a standard garage. Never use an extension cord. One of three dashboard lights will slowly flash blue when the car is charging. You can also charge at hundreds of standard J1772 and rapid charging CHAdeMO locations around Southern California. Access the charging panel in the front of the vehicle using the key fob or button to the left of the steering wheel.

  • How long does charging take?

A CHAdeMO 100kw rapid charging location takes about 15-20 minutes (about double that for 50kw hour locations) to return the car to a full 80+ mile range. Costs vary but it’s about $15 for a full recharge. An overnight charge of about 12 hours will provide roughly a half-charge. An overnight charge on the standard three-prong outlet will return about 50 miles in range to the vehicle. So for most in-town driving days, plugging in overnight will leave the car with a full range/charge the next morning.

  • How do I plan a longer trip?

Download PlugShare, Blink, ChargePoint or any other electric vehicle charging apps to assist with planning a road trip. Most major destinations (Santa Barbara, San Diego, Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead) immediately outside of Los Angeles will require at least one rapid-charge CHAdeMO stop which can be done while getting food/drink or stretching your legs.

  • How do I get the most range out of the car?

Drive the car in the regenerative braking mode “B” in most circumstances. Minimize use of the AC/heater and do not exceed 65mph.

  • How do I know how many miles I have left in my range?

The driver information screen immediately above the steering wheel will continuously update the estimated range based on your current driving. When that range reaches 15 miles or less, it will alert you. If you’re driving anywhere in any major metropolitan area in/around Los Angeles, a charging station will be within driving distance. It is recommend that longer trips requiring a CHAdeMO rapid charging station be planned further in advance using charging apps.

  • How do I see the percentage of charge and other details about the car?

Use the “Trip buttons” to the left of the steering wheel to view the percentage of charge remaining, estimated charging times, mileage, and other trip details.

  • Where are the lighter charger port and USB charging port?

The USB charging and data port is on the driver side of the center console near the cup holders. The auxiliary audio port is on the passenger side. The lighter charger port is tucked below the radio/rear view screen where the top of a cup placed in the cup holder might go.

Clarence24 Jul 2022

The host was great but the car wasn’t…it’s better to just rent a gas car, this electric car runs out of full battery in 2 hours. You constantly have to stop to charge it & pay $10 every time & wait for 30 minutes fir charging….if you go over 57mph the battery runs out faster…..Again, the host was excellent but the electric car is a joke.

Joseph's response

I’m sorry the car didn’t match your needs, Clarence. Yes, driving at higher speeds and use of the heater/AC decreases the efficiency of the car. And if one is driving at those highway speeds for a couple of hours it will exhaust the 90 mile estimated range. I’ll review the car description and FAQ to ensure this remains clearly outlined for future renters and that the driving/charging tips remain accurate. I also keep the prepaid recharge fee competitive to help save recharge time and costs.

The car ran great -- and it was very clean. I'm an EV driver already so I know to plan around charging during meals and such. The Nissan leaf handles very well. Overall a great value.

Joseph's response

Thanks, Robert. I was pleased to host you and glad you were already acclimated to electric car life!
