  • What kind of Insurance does Tamra offer?

    All TURO Tamra rentals have basic insurance. If you want to purchase comprehensive insurance please let our TURO agent know and they will send you a link for a quote through an insurance agent partner. Before we tell you about our insurance policy, please read through the insurance terms and examples. They will give you a better understanding of how our insurance works. Excess Amount – The customer’s liability or potential out-of-pocket expense for damaged costs to the rental car is called “excess”. The excess amount can also be referred to as “Deductible “or “Damage Liability Fee.” Commonly, the excess amount is the potential cost you will pay if the car is damaged or stolen. **If you don’t purchase excess reduction products, the excess amount you will be liable for ranges from 2,00,000 to 3,500,000 KRW for compact cars; 4,500,000 KRW for medium cars, and 5,000,000 KRW for imported vehicles, commercial vehicles, vans and SUVS. Collision Damage Waiver Excess Reduction Collision Damage Waiver Excess Reduction is a comprehensive and affordable protection option that can be purchased through our partner websites, travel insurance companies or Tamra Rent-A-Car before you rent our car. Excess reduction is a car rental company’s own product that can be purchased at the counter. This product lowers the excess amount so that your out-of-pocket expenses are reduced in case your car is stolen or suffers any damage during your journey. These products are optional, and it’s up to you to decide whether you want to risk having to pay the excess amount. However, these products do not cover damages caused by Reckless Driving and/or Negligence. Third Party Insurance (TPI) All vehicles are inclusive of TPI. Protection coverage includes third party liability with a maximum cover of 20 million KRW for material damages and unlimited cover for personal injuries. Collision Damage Waiver Excess Reduction (CDWR) CDWR will cover only one accident/collision per vehicle. If your collision damage cost exceeds the coverage limit, you are responsible for paying the differences. When you have an accident, your insurance will automatically be cancelled. You will be towed to our agency, where we will calculate the costs of damage the vehicle sustained. Conditions and Restrictions Your CDWR will not be effective under the following circumstances: - Accidents on UDO island (taking the car to UDO island or Korea mainland area is prohibited). - The contract has expired, and you have not extended the vehicle lease. - Unregistered drivers - Exceeding maximum capacity per vehicle. - Accidents, in which the lessee is 100% at fault, reckless driving, negligence, speeding, hit-and-run, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, will not be covered by our insurance company. ** Negligence is defined as follows. The lessee owes a duty of taking reasonable care to our car rental agency. The lessee breached the duty and caused damage to the rental agency’s vehicle due to the breach. ** Reckless driving is defined as driving in a manner that created a serious traffic offence whereby the lessee’s disregard of road traffic code, very dangerous driving and behaviors causing accidents or other damage. This also applies to lessee’s behaviors causing risk of physical injury to any other road user or substantial damage to property when a driver failed to consider the risk posed by your driving or when you recognized the risk but took it anyhow. Basic Excess Reduction Tamra Rent-A-Car offers a 500,000 KRW excess reduction product. If the damage cost is less than 500,000 KRW, you are responsible for repairing cost + loss of business cost. If the damages surpass 500,000 KRW, the lessee will be responsible for 20% of the damages. Loss of business is calculated as 50% of the daily rent rate according to the repair period needed, while rent rate depends on seasonal pricing. Conditions and Restrictions*** Our insurance products do not cover mirrors, rims, tires, lost keys, towing and roadside assistance. Please be careful. If the tire is found to be old, the car’s battery died or if something else happens due to our direct fault, towing and tire repair costs are covered by Tamra Rent-A-Car. If you’ll lock yourself out of the car, you are fully responsible for the fees related to car re-opening. We urge you to buy third-party insurance to lower the risk of out-of-pocket expense and have a peace of mind during your journey. In case of single-party accidents, where the lessee is found to be 100% at fault such as reckless driving, negligence, hit-and-run, driving while intoxicated – no matter if the customer is covered by full insurance – the lessee is fully responsible for such accidents. If you have your own insurance, you will need to pay damage costs here, at Tamra Rent-A-Car. Afterwards, we will provide you with an invoice detailing the damage costs, at which you will make a claim and be reimbursed by your insurance company.

  • What if I get into an accident or break down during my rental period?

    During your rental period, you are responsible for any damage your vehicle sustains. Please contact us immediately in the event of an accident or any kind of vehicle malfunction. Please contact us via WeChat, WhatsApp, Kakao Talk or by phone at once. In the event of the accident please remember to: - Write a statement of the incident immediately. - Take photos of the vehicle’s damage. - Take down names, plate numbers, and phone numbers of everyone involved. - If the accident is serious, please do call the police. Jeju Island police does not respond to reports on insignificant car collisions.

  • What do I need to rent a vehicle in South Korea?

    Foreign guests need to present a valid passport, a valid international driving permit issued by a country that is a part of Geneva or Vienna Convention on Road Traffic - both your passport and international driver permit must be issued by the same country. We also accept local Korean (must be valid for a year) or a USFK issued Korean license. Foreign Nationals Living Abroad Outside Their Country of Citizenship You must present your passport, valid license and international driving permit issued by the country you are residing in legally. You must also show proof of residence (i. e. your valid residence permit card or valid proof of residency issued by the local police department or immigration bureau). ** We do not accept business, work visas or student visas. You must show real proof of your living in the country. This is for insurance purposes. Otherwise, your insurance will not be valid during your rental period. ** Foreigners holding licenses issued in China, Indonesia and Taiwan should know that their licenses are not valid for use in South Korea. ** If you are a South Korean permanent resident, you will need to present your foreign resident ARC card, and your Korean driver license must be effective over a year.   • Late Returns and Extensions.

    If you plan to extend your car rental period, please, do so at the time of pick-up to avoid delayed responses, insurance problems and late fees. Please contact us if you are going to be late. When you return the car, please, come to the counter to pay your late fees. Extra rental fees and insurance charges will apply. In addition, you might have to return to our car rental agency to switch cars if your car has been booked by another person ahead of time. Vehicle rentals and returns are only available during our working hours (7 days a week from 07:30 to 20:00). ** IF YOU WILL NOT NOTIFY US ABOUT BEING LATE, 50,000 KRW PENALTY FEE WILL BE CHARGED FOR EVERY EXTRA HOUR! ** If you return the vehicle late without any notification, please, be advised that your insurance will not be valid during this period and the driver will fully responsible for any damage the vehicle sustains. ** Please return the car at our car rental agency. ** The vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel initially received. Extra fees will be charged for fuel shortages. We cannot refund you any fuel. Therefore, please add fuel at different intervals during your trip (plan for 10,000 to 15,000 KRW). If car fuel level is just a bit less than return level, you can spend ~7,000 KRW and add fuel so that your vehicle will get 10% more fuel. ** All our vehicles are non-smoking. If an odor of cigarettes or other odors caused by pets, fishing, vomiting, etc. is detected in our car, Tamra Rent-A-Car will charge a 250,000 KRW clean-up fee.

  • Common Vehicle Malfunctions

    If you have a flat tire, call us immediately. Send us your detailed location via WhatsApp/WeChat and a photo of your detailed address. If you cannot share the detailed address, look for blue road signs, bus stops, the place you are visiting, a picture of a store or attraction nearby, or ask a Korean national to help you. Please do not call anyone else but us. - Car does not start but has lights on (LPG models usually have a long start-time). - Door or trunk is not properly closed, and you are hearing beeping sounds. - A yellow or orange glowing “!” sign that appears on your meter means your tire pressure is low. - A light with an oil can icon means that our car needs maintenance. Please let us know.

  • Driving and parking in South Korea.

    Please do not park your car illegally. Please use common sense when parking. Our car must not interfere with other vehicles. If there aren’t any other options, and you are forced to park your car in a manner that blocks other vehicles, please, write down you contact information and leave it on your dashboard. It will help others to contact you and ask to move your car away when needed (please do not write our phone number down).
