See below for my copy of the response I gave to Turo about the damage claim to see the general condition of the car: When I picked up the car, the owner was not there to give the car over. Instead their friends were there to "just hand over the keys" and didn't know anything about the check in process from Turo. I asked if they knew anything that I should be aware of about the car, but they didn't know anything about it. After I exited the apartment complex that the car was at, I noticed that the Check Engine Light was on, along with the Air Bag and Seat Belt light. I then contacted the owner about these warning lights, and he said: “Yes, it was serviced recently but they didn’t clear the light. Thanks!” These warning lights were captured in the pictures of the gauges that was submitted to Turo during check in. Every time the car was started, these warning lights would come on. Also after driving for a bit, I noticed that the rear view mirror would not stay adjusted, and kept sagging down. The interior of the car had a couple of issues too, the driver’s door speaker grill was missing, the underside of the sun roof lining was coming apart (so I never closed it after seeing the shape it was in), and one of the passenger door handles was loose. Also, on the morning that I was going to return the car, I rolled down the windows and the passenger rear window got stuck down and would not roll back up. The major Safety issue I had with the car happened when I was driving on the highway back from Orlando. After refueling the car and driving for a little while on the highway, I heard a Ding and the Brake Light on the dash came on, and the Traction Control warning also came on. The car then started to handle oddly and would veer off when using the brakes. I slowed down and drove to the next gas station off the highway and turned the car off. I walked around the car and inspected it for any road debris, damage, leaking fluids, etc. I checked the condition of the tires, the tire pressures, and they were all fine. Opened the hood (gas shocks are going out, you have to hold it open), to look for any obvious engine or radiator issues and didn’t see any. I started the car, all the warning lights were still on, so I turned the car off again to see if it would reset. Restarted again and drove it around the block to see if the car felt any different. The car seemed to be back to normal, but I parked it as the gas station again since the warning lights were still on and then turned car off. I waited for a while to let it sit, checked everything over on the car again and when I restarted it this time, the lights were out (except Check Engine Light & Airbag, those were always on during the entire rental period). Since the lights had gone out, and the car was acting like normal again, I tried driving it to see if I could make it back home and did so without issue. I contacted the owner after returning home about the odd behavior (Saturday, December 30, 9:25 PM EST). I did not hear back from the owner until Sunday morning (Sunday December 31, 10:36 AM EST).
